I have recently switched Harley over to a new brand of food, he's now eating Merrik dry and i mix it in with a bit of Merrik wet to make it a little more appatizing, he seems to love it. My question is how long can i expect his Poop to be runny, it's really, really runny, he's been on it for about 4 days now and not firming up at all. Is there anything i can do to make it better or do i just have to wait it out?

Did you do a cold-turkey switch?

How did you switch Harley over? We have switched our dog over several times, trying to find something that works with her allergies. Every time we did it, we followed the 3 week cycle:

Week 1 - 75% old food, 25% new food
Week 2 - 50% old food, 50% new food
Week 3 - 25% old food, 75% new food

From then on it's 100% new food. If you didn't switch over gradually that's probably partly why you're seeing the runs. Also, feeding wet food can add to the issue. Eagle Pack sells some diarrhea sprinkles that may help.

Did you transition over a 5-7 day period? If not that could be part of your problem. I would fast your pup for 24 hours and then give the food SLOWLY in small meals throughout the day and see if that helps. You could also add a probiotic and/or psyllium for a few days. Canned food can sometimes give them the runs as well as can a food that isn't high enough in fiber. Personally both of my dogs need a food that is at least 4% fiber or one gets gas the other diarrhea.

Good luck!

I agree with the 24 hour fast. You could also try adding 1 tablespoon of pure canned pumpkin (not the pie filling). Don't add more than that or it could have the opposite effect.
