Boxer Pal
somebody told me that I should not run or jog long distance with my boxer(3months old) till he is at least 1yr.. The reason I was told was that morning runs or jogs can damage a pups growing bones. dfoes any body know any onfo regarding this matter?

I don't have any medical information I can provide, but I run with my dog and have done so since he was 5-6 mos. old....he has had no adverse effects, but I did only do short runs with him (3-5 miles)until recently (the longest was 8 miles with water breaks) and I should say am not a super fast runner.

I would, however caution you about running with your dog when it is warm outside...Boxers snouts are not effective respiratory tools and they get hot and can't cool themselves down effectively. I recommend bringing along water for your dog as well.

Angus is a 14 mos. old and runs approx. 15 miles a week with me.

Good Luck!

P.S. If you have questions, ask your vet for their opinion.

You are correct, you should limit their activity while their bones are still growing
. Once your boxer is a year old, it's safe to do, weather permitting, boxers can over heat very easily in the summer :)

I was told limited activity until 18 months. Pru is 15 months and she was in agility. After her first class I read that agility work shouldn't be done with Boxers until they are at least 18 months. When we went to the second class I asked the trainer if there was a certain age a dog should be before doing agility. She asked me how old Pru was and I told her 15 months. She said the same as what I had read that she shouldn't really do too much until 18 months. I asked if she shouldn't do the jumps any more then and she said they wouldn't hurt as long as she didn't do too many but the "A" frame was more stressful on her joints than the jumps. She told me to only let her go over the "A" frame 1-2 times at the beginning of the class before she was tired. I took her to 4 of the 5 classes. The 5th class was for everyone to compete and to be timed. I knew it would be pretty continuous with all the obstacles and decided to stay home. We will go through the classes again sometime next summer. The facility were we train allows you to retake any class for free as many times as you like.
