We have this new addition, Coby age 22 months. We had him for two days 3 months ago and he bolted out the door and I had to chase him for several blocks. Finally he was approached by some young adults and he was eager for their attention and I was able to get the leash on him.

Now he has been given to us as he was too much dog for his family. He is so very sweet and we love him. He gets along well with our nine year old Rudy. He also seems very happy and content. ]

Yesterday my son let him out to play with a boxer his age across the culdesac. Oh how they played and ran and ran. When the neighbor took his dog in, Coby took off up the street. Son followed him and after a period of time got him back in our yard only to have him take off again in a different direction. Son finally got him several blocks from home when he just got too tired to run anymore. One more thing, it was 103 degrees here yesterday. I had a boxer several years ago who did the same thing and we never did cure him of it.

Well for starters you should probably keep him on a leash at all times until you work on a few things. The first thing you could do is a simple wait command which forces him to let you go out the door first and wait for permission to step out, this would help him from bolting out anytime a door is opened. Second i would begin working on a come command so that if he does escape you will hopefully have some success calling him back instead of chasing him for blocks and blocks. Do a search on here or look around and you will find loads of good info on training these and any other commands.

Thanks. We have just been discussing a training schedule. Coby sits on command and shakes hands. That's all. He has a lot of learning to do. I have trained lots of boxers over the years and would hope to have someone else do it this time, but that probably won't happen.
