Runaway Boxer

Hello, I am new to this site. I posted my dilemnia but cannot retrieve anything so I am attempting it again.

I have an adorable 91/2 month Boxer female name Madisyn. SHe has been an absolutely doll as well as a little terror, at times. SHe is alot of fun though. However she has begun doing things that are strange to me. She does not want to come in when we let her out. I have to coax her back into the house. THe other morning we had to chase her down the street which was dangerous among other things. We try to keep her busy. We take a weekly visit to Petco and I walk her daily. She has tons of toys and lots of love. I am thinking that she is getting lonely her alone. I work during the day. I want her to get to the point where she can stay out in the house instead of the crate but right now, I am reluctant since she is a puppy.

ANyone know why she does this or have any suggestions as to why she does not want to come in.

ALso she vomits quite a bit, not alot just mainly after she eats. I believe I am overfeeding her (two cups two times a day), any suggestions?

1.) Sounds like your boxer is just being a puppy. Puppies as they grow will try to challenge your authority and see if they can get away from things even though they know their commands fairly well. I am not an expert in training, but I would start by working on the recall command. You keep him in a contained area... walk away from him and call him. If he responds, give him lots of praise and a treat. But if he doesn't and chooses to stay put and run away from you, then turn your back and keep walking away from him, calling him once in a while to see if he'll respond. He'll figure it very fast that it doesnt' do him any good to challenge you.

2) As for vomitting, you might want to take him to the vet soon to check on him. 2 cups twice a day is very normal, what food is he on right now? Vomitting is usually a sign that something he's eaten doesn't agree with his stomach and it's having trouble digesting it.

Thanks, I feel a lot better. I went to PETCO and one of the salesclerk suggested that I purchased a choker which looks like it really hurts. Anyway, my Mady just laid there and refused to move and I just did not have the heart to "choke" her as the clerk suggested I do. Being really patient with her has helped a lot with her training especially housebreaking.

She eats Science Diet Healthy and it has helped some. At first, it was quite regular and the vet said that overfeeding does that so I reduced it and gradually increased to the point I am at now but now she does spit up a little. I think I better take her to the vet.

By the way, your baby is absolutely GORGEOUS and looks I lot like Madisyn.

There is ample information on all of your concerns if you simply avail yourself to the SEARCH ENGINE. Use keywords such as "recall" and "Journal Food" and you'll find very valuable information.

Sounds to me like your dog just needs training. I suggest you get the dog into some sort of training class which uses POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT techniques only. These classes are for YOU so that you can understand how to properly train your dog and have a truly well behaved dog.

Please guide yourself accordingly.

Please do a search on the food forum for "science diet". Many owners have attributed it to adverse reactions from their dogs. It's not a very good food, and they use known cancer causing chemicals as their perservitives.

I kind of agree with you. I used diet for a while since Nitro won't eat any other brand as much as he eat Science Diet. Anyway I started noticing Nitro having some alergic reaction but it didn't click in my mind that it could be because of the Science Diet. Also his coat looked like it's dry so i started to change his food.
