Rules for outside.

Can a boxer be left alone in the backyard without getting into mischief for any period of time? I realize that as a puppy, leaving them in the backyard is out of the question, but what after they are older? Is this an issue with anyone? We both work, sometimes both all day.

Just my thought here but I'd be too nervous to leave my baby outside all day for the fact that someone could steal her, kids could tease her, or someone could give her things that are bad for her. My Jade is now 22 months old (today) and she's left in the house. We have left her in the yard for an hour or two and the whole time I'm gone I'm so nervous and can't stop thinking about her. Whether they're in the crate, loose in the house or outside while you're gone, more than liking they're just going to sleep anyways waiting for you to get home.

I would have to say, that it would depend on your dog, yard settings such as fence , shade, shelter & area that you live in. I know Ms. has lots of bugs & mosq. like Ar. area where I live.My dog could never be left alone outside, they don't make fences tall enough for her, but my daughters Boxer would stay in a fence 3ft tall & never try to get out. Boo is never left alone outside ....there is to many things that can go wrong....not to mention...bugs ...snakes ...chewing on sticks ..etc. My 1st Boxer was stolen from the backyard ...he was alone for maybe 5 minutes.....I learned my lesson the hard way.:(
IMO ..they belong in the house...!

No way would I leave my girl outside while I am not home. Way to many things could happen. Better to be safe than sorry. Even when I am at home she is never unsupervised for longer than 5 minutes without me having to know what she is doing. I trust her in the house way more than I trust her outside. You can scour the yard for things that are obvious but something as simple as a bee could be deadly.

I would consider a pet sitter/dog walker.

I may be the only one but we have worked hard to dog proof our yard and Titus and Tucker are left outside during the day. They do have a doggie door that leads to an air conditioned laundry room so they can be outside, in the garage or in the house.

My backyard also opens up into my neighbors fenced in backyard and there are usually 4 dogs playing outside most of the day. Plus my neighbor is a stay at home Mom so while they are outside, without me they aren't really alone b/c my neighbor is home and often times brings all 4 dogs into her house for some R&R.

Other than the occasionally digging, they have been okay thus far.

I have left my dogs outside for a couple of hours at a time and as adult dogs, they are just fine. My sister once left them out all day and they were fine except she didn't leave any water for them. (I could have killed her.)

My pup, Rider, is a different story. Even with me out there with him, he can get into all kinds of mischief. It takes training, a watchful eye and lots of supervision to show the dogs what is off limits and what they can do. But it is possible.

As boxers are not really outdoor dogs, I tend not to leave them out more than about 30 minutes at a time in hot or cold weather. If it is pleasant enough weather, I leave them out until they want to come in (usually about 30 minutes of play, then they want to come inside).

My adult dogs never seem to want to stay outside for long periods of time, so I see no reason for them to. I enjoy having them inside with me.

Sorry, I didn't mean to sidetrack this thread, I just had to defend little Rider.

I worry too much about my guys to leave them outside unattended.
