Hi,

We pick up our puppy soon who will be 8 weeks old. He is currently on eukanuba large puppy brand.

I would like to ween him off this brand after finding out this is not good quality for them. I was thinking of either royal canin puppy or James well beloved. I understand they should be moved to adult food after 6 months due to high protein and calcium that can cause hip dysphasia, which now has me concerned. Royal canin has a boxer 26 formula and sensible choice and I'm so confused now what to feed him. Also does the choice of food effect the amount of times of poo, due to most food does not get used and comes out as waste if that makes sense.

Can anyone please advise me. I live in the uk and have pets at home close by, which they tried tp sell me their vetinary brand, which was similar to hills science diet.

Many thanks

Congratulations on your new pup, we'll all be wanting to see some photos :D

Yes, if you feed a low quality food with lots of cheap fillers in you will get lots of waste coming out the other end, the better quality the food the less poo you get.

The dry foods available in the UK are generally not as high quality as those available in the US, some places do stock them but it's getting a regular reliable source that's tricky.

Another food with better quality ingredients is Burns - you can have a look at their website and buy it direct from them. We used to have ours on Burns, Dino has allergies so we have to be careful, we changed to a brand called Skinners, which has similar ingredients to James Wellbeloved & Burns but is classed as a working dog food and therefore VAT free. Our boxers prefer it & wolf it down, they look great with shiny coats & have plenty energy, in fact lots of boxer friends have their dogs on it too, it's an added bonus that it's a good bit cheaper than Burns & JB.

Hi

Thank you for your advice I will definately post some pictures when we bring him home. I am very excited and cannot wait.

I have looked at the orijen I can get that delivered and burns feed. It's very hard to choose I know my husband wanted something nutritional aswell less poos and smell lol.

Thanks I will have a look at Pets at home to see if I can buy any from there. Also do we only need to feed our puppy, puppy feed until 4-5 months? Is adult food not to rich for their tummy?

Thanks

My James did not do well on Jameswellbeloved- he vomited every morning while on it (a thick tar like substance) and it smells really bad too!! He did better on the Royal Canin but when he got older and was able to take the higher protein food I switched to Acana and he's doing great on it!

It's funny you say that, devon has allergies, and we have tried her on both Burns and JWB - both of which help didn't her and in fact were very dusty. We have also now switched to a working dog food "autarky", and devon is doing really well on it. It also has very little dust.
Poo size hasn't increased either!!! (bonus)
