My three month old just got into a trash bag and ate raw chicken pieces from last night. Should I be worried? What should I watch for or prevent??

Thanks!

Were there bones in it too??? That would be my main concern. The raw meat may bother her but I would be more worried about an obstruction or splintered bone. How much meat did she eat????

I wouldn't worry about it at all... raw chicken (with bone) is a normal part of a raw diet, which many BW members feed to their dogs. Just don't feed her any kibble or other carbohydrates for 8-12 hours following the raw meat. I would expect she'll have little bit of diarrhea especially if there were NO bones in the chicken, but I doubt anything serious. She should be just fine. ;)

If the chicken pieces were raw, then it is unlikely that you have much to worry about. Dogs are perfectly adapted for consuming that sort of thing - it is their natural food, after all ;) And far *easier* for them to digest than things like kibble.

I would be far more worried if she'd eaten cooked chicken pieces, since cooking bones makes them dry and brittle, liable to splinter and cause problems. Or even if it had been the remains of last night's pizza... But raw chicken is unlikely to be problematic, bones and all (many, many dogs are fed this daily, after all).

Even so, since she isn't used to consuming raw food (and presumably may have eaten quite a lot), I would suggest keeping a good eye on her for any signs of tummy upset, and see that she is pooping normally. If there are any troubles of that sort, then a vet visit would be in order. Most likely though, she will digest the raw meat and bones without issue.

I gave my Rocky some (thinking it couldn't possibly hurt many people on this site feed nothing but raw)and he had soft stools on and off for about a day and a half but no other problems..... Wish I would have known not to feed him his meal of kibble right the raw chicken. Rocky has a weak tummy and still no big problems so I would agree there is nothing to worry about.

Thank you!

It was all pre-cut chicken with no bones. mostly just fat and stuff we didn't eat. I was just worried because it had been out all night. We watched her close and she seems to be doing fine. Thanks for putting my mind at ease. The vet got us worried about all kinds of stuff, as most vets do.

Thanks again!
