Rome/Paris/London trip summer 2005!

hey all-

my mom is a high school teacher and every year she has taken a group of kids (between 10-15 people) wherever they want to go (it's a school event thing, but she's the only one who does it - you just get a tour guide and go around the town and do whatever you want, really!), and ever since i was in 2nd grade, i have gotten to go along! it's a really good thing for me because i got to be very cultured at a young age!

well, we all missed last year due to my grandparents being sick, so my mom and dad went to London alone for christmas but we have a new trip planned for Summer 2005! mark and i both want to go and it's cheaper since it's a school thing my mom is going to put both of us down as chaperones! for two weeks you visit Rome, Paris and London...i am so excited! i have not been to Rome yet although have been to Paris and London a few times!

i just don't know how i'm going to be able to be away from asia for two weeks!! we will probably go nutzo missing her - but this is a great opportunity for us so i don't want to miss out on it (mark has never been out of the country)! i guess Asia is going to be staying either with my dad or with mark's parents (she loves going out there to see her golden retreiever cousin Max)!

i haven't been to London or Paris in about four years and i have never been to Rome so any suggestions on places to visit and/or how to come with being away from asia for so long...

Rome is an amazing city! All of the well-known places are worth the visit, IMO--Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Roman Forum, Coliseum, Vatican, etc. When I was there, I walked pretty much everywhere.... the weather was nice, and that way I got to see everything on all the little side streets--of which there are plenty.

The shopping there is pretty good for Murano glass items, leather, and cashmere. The area at the base of the Spanish Steps has designer shops, as well as little shops. I went to a great wine store while I was there. If you're into that, let me know and I'm sure I can find the name of it.

The people were very friendly (the men a little too much so, sometimes, LOL!), and the food was quite good.

Rome...where to start... the Vatican, the Sistine Chapel is like nothing you will ever experience in your life. If you want to see the Pope you need tickets and it is on Wednesdays. THe Coliseum, unbelievable and they have been revamping it (they began reconstruction a couple years ago...), The gelato...I believe the BEST place is Il Gelati (I will double check with my husband and cousin on that, yes it is that important...get the cone grande 3 scoops with REAL whipped cream) it is next to the Natzional Hotel ( I will check the name of the square also...) The spanish steps whenw e went were not in bloom and were just, well, steps... when in bloom they are supposed to be beautiful... I will think of more I am sure... the most amazing thing is you walk down a busy street and all of a sudden you run into ancient ruins...It's a little wierd. Anyway if you need anymore suggestions or need to remind me to check on those names let me know...
