I thought if I posted this here more people would see in then in the computer forum! I wouldn't believe this if it wasn't me it happened to! I just got off the phone from Rogers. Today I recieved an email supposedly from staff @ rogers. com and it said I had been recieiving a high number of viruses in outgoing mail. This email even had the rogers link on it! I thought it sounded fishy as it asked me to open an atachment! Of course I called Rogers and it turns out this is a VIRUS! I have Norton and it has caught everything however it is not updated yet for this new virus! Please becareful and read it over properly! If you notice bad grammer and spelling mistakes well then it is obvious. But at first glance it looks real! Please beware! Just a heads up!

Do not do that: we have different categories for a reason. It's like people posting on the Boxer ring forum in the hope to get their message more viewed but get removed instead. I moved your post to the computer forum.

Olly

PS: never trust the domain name only. Per example, I got emails (sent by someone's computer that got infected) with zip files coming from staff/support/administration @ boxerworld.com and I am well placed to know those email addresses don't exist...

Sorry Olly

I was just concerned especially since Norton is not catching it. I can see how many people would think it legit.

VirusScan from McAfee didn't catch them too. Just never open attachments unless you are sure about the sender (like an authentification with a PGP key).
Here's one of the messages created by a virus I got today:

Dear user of Boxerworld.com gateway e-mail server,

We warn you about some attacks on your e-mail account. Your computer may
contain viruses, in order to keep your computer and e-mail account safe,
please, follow the instructions.

For further details see the attach.

In order to read the attach you have to use the following password: 05236.

Best wishes,
The Boxerworld.com team
Another one:
Dear user of e-mail server "Boxerworld.com",

Our main mailing server will be temporary unavaible for next two days,
to continue receiving mail in these days you have to configure our free
auto-forwarding service.

Advanced details can be found in attached file.

For security reasons attached file is password protected. The password is "67251".

Kind regards,
The Boxerworld.com team

I got the same messages using other domain names as well, with always the same zip file and the link to the domain name.

OMG! Mine was basically the same also with a zip file attached and asked for a password. What is the matter with these people. I hope everyone makes sure they take an extra good look at these things because you would almost think they were real. I already called my mom because she is the type of person who would open it. She isn't very savvy with the computer. It's true what you said! Do not open things like that. I called to make sure and sure enough it was bogus. I hope Norton and McAffee get in gear and update the virus definitions. I also have been getting the gail and netsky viruses 10 in the last week. Norton has caught those. I have had to ask my friends to stop forwarding things as they never take off the names and eventually someone out there has a forward with a ton of email addys. I beieve that is how I got the other ones. Go figure my business email is not affected by anything and I use it on every site!?

I think this new virus finds email addresses from the address book of the infected computer and then is smart enough to create a fake sender email address using staff/support@domain name of the recipient's email address with a link to the domain name to appear legitimate. I get 1,000 to 2,000 spam (junk mail/virus) daily with so many people having my email address in their address book so I am almost used to them...
I never open attachment and I disabled html in my email program because sometimes just reading an email in html is enough for getting the computer infected (mainly with Outlook, with some security holes in internet explorer).
By the way, here's another email I got:
Hello user of Boxerworld.com e-mail server,

Some of our clients complained about the spam (negative e-mail content)
outgoing from your e-mail account. Probably, you have been infected by
a proxy-relay trojan server. In order to keep your computer safe,
follow the instructions.

For more information see the attached file.

In order to read the attach you have to use the following password: 60414.

Have a good day,
The Boxerworld.com team http://www.boxerworld.com

You must think that is pretty dumb since obviously you own the site so for them to be sending you the email is pretty stupid. Why do you think there are so many people sending or creating viruses? What do they get out of it? Just knowing there are crashing people's computers? I never really thought about it but it makes me mad:mad:

Well when I talked to Rogers they said they were "working on it" as for Norton I am unsure whether or not they have a defense against it. I keep checking for live updates and just within a half of an hour there were two.

I just moments ago received a similar e-mail...supposedly from Yahoo support telling me that my mail account had been disabled due to high virus activity....funny thing was my mailbox was and is working just fine...it too had a zip file attachment and I had to have the special number to access whatever the heck it is supposed to be.....I came straight here to BW and sure enough you guys have confirmed my suspicions...I went back and deleted it and emptied my trash without opening the attachment....Thanks Christa and Olly!!! I love this place!! djk
