Lovely Rita

Boxer Booster
I'd just like to say a few words about my Rita girl, who died this summer at 2 years old. Through her short years, Rita had a pretty hard life. The fabulous people from the Toronto Humane Society found her wandering the streets of downtown Toronto, so horribly skinny that she had to stay at the humane society for two weeks before she could be put up for adoption. they estimated her age at one year.
Our wonderful neighbors, who had just lost their grand old boxer, Caesar, found her there, and she won their hearts right away. unfortunately, (but fortunately for us)after living there for about two weeks, one of the residents of the house decided that his allergies were too horrible, and that he would have to give rita back to the Humane Society. well, when we heard this, of course we instantly offered to take her, and after making sure Rita got along with our pug/jack russel mix, this big gorgeous brindle girl was ours!!!
she was STILL awfully skinny when we got her, but over the year that we had her, we fattened her up until she was the perfect, healthy boxer girl i have come to remember. well, on August 7th, I had just come home from a month long trip to guatemala to help in an archaeological expedition with my aunt (I'm 15, so my parents were taking care of the dogs). The saturday after I came home, my rita Girl was doing her 600000 mph boxer burns around our yard, when she was distracted and ran into a tree. we are still not entirely sure if she had a heart attack or she broke her neck, but either way her death was short and painless. even though her gums were as white as her teeth and she had stopped breathing, we rushed her to the emergency vet, clinging to the hope that there was something they could do for her. through his panic, my dad drove to the wrong vet, but nonetheless they brought her in and told us that it was too late, she was gone.
at that point i broke down in tears (i hadn't had time before, between starting the car and holding doors open for my dad and sitting in the back seat, helping my aunt give rita cpr) and to this day i cannot understand why Rita had to be taken from us so early. after only a year of enjoying her company, she was gone. my beautiful best friend, who had helped through all those tough teenage problems, and who had been so gloriously healthy just hours before.
well my family was so heartbroken, that our second boxer baby (the spitting image of rita) was just added to our family last week. her name is Kiki (a nickname of my aunts) and our family is once again complete!
well thats it, sorry its so long! i just had to rant a little, and it feels much better now that i've talked about it. i really wish no one else would have to go through this, but i guess its the risk you take when you give your love to an animal, and i for one am willing to take it! so good luck to all you fabulous boxer lovers, and watch your babies when they're doing their boxer burns!!!!!

Best of luck with the new baby, and post some pics of both your babies.
