I apologize if I posted this twice, something goofy happened with my computer.

Oscar's little paw pad (the one above the paws on his leg) is ripped. I just noticed it. He doesn't seem to be bothered by it, to me it looks painful. He hasn't had any bleeding from it or anything, qnd he's acting like usual but I was wondering if they would have to stitch it back together, or what? Has anybody experienced this before?
I have a vet appointment, but wanted to be prepared for anything horrible that they might tell me.

Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks! Paula

Since it's not one thats on the ground and its not bleeding, they may just let it heal itself. They may give a course of antibiotics as a precaution...each vet and case is different in that aspect. Good luck!

Ty peeled his back one time at my parents' house. It wasn't bleeding or anything, but I called his vet back at home. They said to try to keep him on soft surfaces, like grass, versus concrete and just to keep an eye on it. They said it is comparable to us having a blister peel back-midly painful, but not much you can do. By the time we got back home (2 days later) it looked fine. If in doubt, or he seems in pain, a trip to the vet is always a good idea. Hope Oscar is all better soon!

This brings back memories! We took Nestle to a summer cabin one year and within 15 minutes she had sliced one of her toe pads wide open. Blood was gushing all over the place. We were in the middle of nowhere and it was a Sunday. We had to page the closest vet and she agreed to meet us at the clinic. She took a pair of scissors and cut the flap that was dangling by a thread. It looked so painful but Nestle didn't show any signs of being hurt. The vet just wrapped her foot up and said that it would heal quickly on its own. Within a week she was totally fine. Nestle's case was pretty extreme so I'd imagine your boy will be just fine!

Thanks so much for the responses, that definitely puts me more at ease. He has an appointment tomorrow.

Thanks again!

Ali is after taking a piece right out off her paw pad. I was concerned because of running so much and put some antibiotic ointment on it. She just licked it off and it healed on its own. She is as tough as nails. Nothing makes her cry. Her buddy Brooke whines about everything.

KOKO used to get this on and off when she was running hard on pavement. If it happens again you might want to try liquid bangage to glue it together, stop bleeding and keep it clean. With KOKO I just left it alone and it healed up on its own in a couple of days..

Just curious - what did the vet suggest?

Well, it was funny, I took Oscar to the vet and of course as I am getting him in the car I notice that it's completely healed!! I couldn't believe it! We went to the doc anyway and they said the same thing, that there are some things you can do such as the invisible bandages and things but all in all they heal themselves. Thanks so much!
