We are trying to adopt a white boxer from the local rescue and was told today that he has ringworm. Is ringworm hard to get rid of and is this a chronic problem in white boxers?

It is sometimes difficult to get rid of, it depends on how big it is probably. It is not specific to any color, any dog can get it. Are they holding him until it clears? Pearl had it when I adopted her. Malaseb baths and anti-fungal cream cleared it up.

ringworm

Yes the are holding him. I was also worried how contagious it is. He is so handsome and would love to have him and hate that this will cause us to wait even longer. Oh well if it is meant to be it will be.

Ringworm is just a fungus. The same fungus that causes Athletes Foot in people (though you can get it elsewhere, in which case it is also ringworm LOL). It has nothing whatsoever to do with the colour of the dog, but yes it is contagious to people.

You're far from guaranteed to get it though. If you do, however, you can simply hot-foot it down to your pharmacy and pick up some lamisil cream. That will take care of ringworm in as little as one application. You can probably use the same thing on the dog, btw.
