Ringworm

We just received an email from our breeder telling us that Vito has ringworm. They have the medication and are taking care of it. I've read a little about it, but just wanted to hear from you guys that it's not that big of a deal.

We will be picking him up next thursday morning and taking him to our vet that afternoon to make sure he's healthy, but i just don't like the fact that he's already got something and we don't even have him yet!!

Please ease our mind and let us know it's nothing to worry about.

Just so you know it is contagious to humans as well as other pets so be prepared.

Yeah, I did read that. We do live near other animals, so we have to be careful of that. About how long does it take to clear up? We aren't getting him for about another week, so hopefully it will be gone by then?

I'm not sure a few weeks I believe until the hair starts growing back on the spots. You could do a search for ringworm to make sure.

My Balboa had one when we brought him home. The vet recommended a cream that is used for athletes feet. I think it was myconazole (sp). It cleared up in about two/three weeks. I have two adult dogs and they all played together and they didn't get it. My vet said kids and young animals are more likely to get it than adults (skin or fur). Hope it is all cleared up by the time your furbaby comes home.

Ringworm is normally just a little, itchy bald spot for dogs. It should be no big deal. Dixie had a monster time with it (posted some info on that to someone's balding post...that may actually be the name of it..."balding?"), but she is the DEFINITE EXCEPTION not the rule. Dixie is extrememly sensitive to everything and it caused some trouble with topical treatments. Even then, she wasn't really uncomfortable or anything.
