Completely Boxer Crazy
Our Boxer "Riley" just had surgery on Thursday June 3rd to remove a lump from his shoulder.. His 3rd lump removal surgery in his 2 years of life.. We hoped for a cyst this time but nope it was a tumor again.. This one has been the worst surgery to deal with by far as they gave him a pretty long insisson and it has been a rough weekend.. He bled a litttle bit from his stitches
what they say is normal drainage..He just was so restless that he has so much swelling in his chest area like a little squishy pouch and the surgery site and down his front leg and the back of the same leg. I called the ER Vet to ask if we should be concerned about all the fluid that has seem to be all over she asked if he was resting much I told them not much, so she suggested to give him Benadryl the allergy meds that We humans take as it might make him a little bit sleepy then he can rest..
because he is up and down not taking it easy this would be what was the cause of all the swelling and fluid. build up as far as his bleeding it was caused by him trying to lick or scratch his stitches or being too active. They told us to put a T shirt on him. which we did..
Today I took him to his Vet and he put him in the lampshade collar and also said that we need to have the shirt on and also tape his back feet so he can't scratch.. but so he can still walk just not big steps.. He is just so sad and I was wondering if anyone else have had any of the above problems with any of their Boxers after surgery.. He is just so miserable and I hate that collar.. I know it for his own good and to keep him from getting his site infected but its so hard to see your pet so uncomfortable.. Now we just hope for the best when his results come back..
They did do x rays of both his knees and hips as long as he was under because he sometimes has had a limp problem at different times on one leg or the other and so they wanted to make sure he hadn't any tears on the inside of either knee.. which they tell me is common in large breed dogs.. as they play hard and run hard..They didn't find any tears but they did find some arthritis.. and begining of hip displasia<SP.> I didn't know about arthritis being ANOTHER HEALTH ISSUE FOR BOXERS.. WE love him so much that it sure hurts to see your pet sick for any reason.. Just needed to Vent so thanks for listening to me..
