Maxwell's Ma

I was driving and my DH was in the passenger seat. The two fur babies in the back. We had just left the field where they run and was going to get some yogurt (Max and Riley love sitting outside the yogurt place--eating yogurt and getting lots of attention from the owner/patrons).

As I was driving my Dh started yelling--the window, the window. Well Riley had her head out the window and was stepping on the up button...Now I usually have the window lock button. I start to hit the button. It was so scarry. She was ok. I am just grateful the down button I had worked. So, be careful and always have the window lock button on when your babies are in the car. I definitely will...

I think this is something that a lot of people don't even think of. I know I never would. Now that you have me thinking about it, my window buttons are made into the door and to get them up, you actually have to stick your finger under the button type thing and pull up. So if they did step on the button, it would only go down which could be a dangerous enough thing if you don't buckle your dog in. My other car has manual windows, which sucks, so no worries there. Stephens car has the buttons in the center console so there is no way they could get stuck in the window there.

Thanks for making us think about this stuff..

Glad she is ok!

I always have my lock on. So I can be a controlling mother to my skin kids  I have heard too many stories of pups jumping out of moving cars. I don't even roll them down more than about 4 inches. Never can be too careful! ;) Glad no one was hurt!

Kaybie's Mom

me too

I was driving my sister's car once and Kaybie was in the backseat. I was pulling in the driveway at my mom's and I look up and see my mom running frantically towards the car screaming and then I hear Kaybie's collar tags jingling in the backseat.....I turn around and realize she is strangling in the window. She had stood on the window button and closed her neck in. I panicked and started screaming and pushing every button I could find. It felt like it took forever to find the right button. I finally did and freed Kaybie. I threw the car in park and jumped out to open the door for her and let her out of the car. She was trembling. I was crying. There was slobber and fur on the car window from all her struggling. There was a small line on her neck that was red and some of the fur was gone. I was a mess. Kaybie was fine but that was the scare of a lifetime for me. In my truck, I have the kind of window buttons that if you push them, they go down, not up, but now the first thing I do when I get in the car is put the windows down to a spot that she can just get her head out and no more, then I push the lock button. Please everyone be careful with the car windows and make sure you lock them.

OMG, me too

This has happened to Sweet Pea, too. The first time (yes, unfortunately it was more than once) SP was in the front seat with me so I caught it quickly, but second time she was in the back seat. Poor baby. Two different cars but the window buttons are in the same place (chrysler, dodge). I'm anal about the window lock now. My skin people get irritated with me!! "Could you please unlock my window?"

Other day, daughter had the dogs to go to the quick store. Cadence jumped out of the window at a stop light!!! Poor dtr had to pull over and get her out of the street. While she was doing that, Sweet Pea jumped out!! She hasn't wanted to take the dogs with her for awhile now. That one really scared me!! Cady could've been run over! Heck they BOTH could've been hit!

Me Too

That happened to Foreman once too he never stuck his head out after that both dh and I were in the car. We don't let the dogs hang out of the window anymore Foreman lost sight in one eye so we don't want to take chances on the other eye it wasn't from that, but a neighbour once warned us about flying objects hurting their eyes. Rather safe then sorry now for us. The eyes are precious.

I have heard that happen before. It sounds real scarey, we always make sure are's are locked, even if we don't have the boy's!!

THANKS Jen!! Fortunately I own a van and most of the time Shae is with us, she is in the back and not the passenger seat. But I would never in a million years think of this, had you not posted it! I will be more watchful now and this is just why I love this site. We're so sorry you had to experience this scarey situation but at least you've passed on the lesson you learned to the rest of us! Again, we thank you and so glad all is well now!

Cerb has had seperation anxiety since day one, so if we went out, he went with us all the time. One day Dh and I had to run into the store, it was summer so we left the car running with the AC on. When we came back out, the window was down and Cerb was gone!

A lady had spotted him and was wandering around looking for his people. My heart just about broke in two! We were so lucky that he didn't get hit by a car or someone didn't take him. I still feel horribly guilty and sick to my stomach when I think about that :(
