Chuckaluck

Boxer Buddy
my Boo Boo is 12 years old, he has many tumors, and he looks very bad, he is all skin and bones. But, he is still alert, and he still eats everyday. He is very frail and fragile. Has anyone ever been through this before? It breaks my heart to see him him so frail, but I will not put him down, as long as he is still not suffering. This is a day by day thing, and it has made me a nervous wreck. Any advice would be appreciated

It is so hard to watch them grow old, and yet so wonderful that they are still with us. I think you know your Boo Boo best. Does he still wiggle his nub to see you? Like to watch the world go by throught the window? Maybe enjoy going out and smelling the wind? If so then I say give him what he wants. If he likes a litle peanut butter give him some, a bit of steak, whatever he can tolerate well. My boy is only six but has a number of health problems that slow him down and his favorite thing is a gentle massage-he will lay across me and groan with pleasure :) I say cherish every moment and trust your Boo to tell you when he is tired. Hopefully you have a good vet who can help you help him be comfortable. Watch his eyes-they tell everything! And enjoy your old friend while you can-how blessed you both are!

I feel for you. It is so hard watching the animal you love so dearly grow old and frail. Since he is so thin, maybe add a few carbs (oats, whole grain pasta, sweet potatoes) to help him fatten up a bit? I know they sure help ME fatten up a bit! :) At 12, I think he deserves what would make him happy but also remain healthy. Maybe some lightly cooked meat for him also? I'm no expert, but it might be worth a try. I don't blame you for not putting him down if he isn't suffering, I would't either. My heart goes out to you.

I have been where you are, with beloved older pets...I do know that when you have the bond of years, you will know what to do,until then, love your boo boo,and treasure each day....remember....."blessed is the person, who has earned the love of an old dog".....I read this once and the quote seems fitting....carry on

my little guy is young and has always been thin, seeing ribs, etc. We feed him VERY well, and I am not sure why he struggles with being thin, although, he is putting on more weight, so it could be in association with him being sick, and now getting better?

I agree with ELubas, the eyes tell you everything. My first boxer was only 8 when we lost him to stomach tumours an my husband still says the night before he died, he looked at him as if to say " I've had enough" You'll know what to do for the best when the time comes. Hopefully that won't be for a long time. Enjoy your time together.
