My first post here besides my introduction... My 1 year old female boxer, Foxy, showed me the other day just how upset she was at me. She wakes me up to go to the bathroom at night which is great, except some nights she wakes me every two hours just for attention I believe cause she doesn't always urinate. This was happening the other night and after just taking her outside an hour or so previously, I told her no and to go lay down. I woke up that morning to a couch pillow shredded and stuffing all over the living room. When I brought her into the living room, the paws went stiff and she was sliding on the tile as she knew she was busted. How do I avoid this in the future and how do I make her not want to tear up my belongings because she didn't get her way? I am not one for crating as I've had a bad experience with my mixed breed that I currently have and I like for my dogs to have that freedom. Please help! She has done this before with a sponge that you wash your car with and any papers she can find are destroyed when ticked off.

This sound like a very bored boxer !

If Biff hasn't had enough excercise he can be right pain in the butt too - getting into all sorts of mischief! foolicon

Does Foxy get a good run in the evenings?

I agree a well exercised boxer is usually a well behaved one :)
Especially because she is showing signs of boredom during the night when she should be sleeping, could be pent up energy.

She doesn't always get a lot of play time... I work late so some nights there just isn't enough time... Foxy is funny though, when I come home - its eating time and then play outside for a few and go to the bathroom. Then she comes inside and rests until I go to bed some time later.....she sleeps with me for a little while and then must get restless...

I'll work on trying to get her playtime going more than what it is now and see if that helps. I thought she was just trying to see if she could push my buttons since I didn't give her what she wanted.

It is easy to see why sometimes it does look like your dog has done something to spite you or in revenge but they're human traits, dogs really don't think that way it just seems it sometimes ;)

Could you crate her at night? Mine go into their crate at 11pm until 6am, they sleep soundly and I know they can't get up to anything in the night :)

The possibility of crating her is always there, its my choice not to do that. I like for my furkids to have as much freedom as possible because they do so well the majority of the time. And if she is crated and has to go to the bathroom, I will never hear her and that would be a bad day for everyone I think! She is tiny and has a little body so I think her bladder is much smaller than my 85 lb dog who has a bladder of steel! So I coddle her a little when it comes to letting her release her bladder!

How old is she anyway? Any chance she could go to doggie day care or out on a walk during the day? I think it is quite clear that girl needs to do some boxer burns :)

Dogs don't get ticked off the way we do. Their brain simply does not think in terms like getting revenge, so throw away that notion. It may seem that way, yes, but it's not the case. I have to echo what the other posters are saying - The dog is bored and has found new ways to entertain herself. You really need to get her more exercise before she attacks your entire couch next time. ;)
A dog walker is a good idea, day care was suggested - both are great ways to curb the energy. You could also start giving her some training session to stimulate the mind.
Your issue is quite easy to resolve, you just need to make the commitment and arrangements for her to stay out of trouble. :)

Well my pup who is only 12 weeks sleeps in bed with me...i know a bad habbit, but I love him. Well we go to bed around 10pm and he sleeps through the nite untill my alarm goes off at 6am. Then I have to pick him up and carry him outside to go the bathroom. On my off days I had him go to bed around 10pm and sleep untill I woke up around 10am. So he will sleep 12 hours straight if i let him. He is a sound sleeper and very lazy and hard to wake up in the morning. But during the day, I play with him alot and run him till he is exhausted. I work 8am till 4pm, and my parents let him out and feed him around lunch time....but i run him about 1 mile a day, plus some time playing with my friends puppies.
