I was just wondering if anyone else has one of each like we do! Tyson our rescue is way more attached at the hip than our little girl Ali. While Ali is as much of a lover as Tyson is she could care less when one of us leaves! Tyson sits and whines and cries even if we take out the trash! Ali rarely follows us through the house Tyson FREAKS out if one of us goes into another room! When we both get ready to leave Tyson runs ahead like he will beat us to the door and get to go, Ali assumes the position in the kitchen and waits for her goodbye treat! Any one else have this kind of a situation?? I would like to think that in due time Tyson will know we are not going to leave him like the first owners did but I am not sure!

I think Tyson just really loves & is thankful for his new home, rather than being somewhat afraid of you leaving him, but its wonderful he loves you so much & is not afraid to show it! It sure makes you wonder what goes through their head after having been abused or abandoned, they really are forgiving souls!LOL, Hanley

My Niki is a rescue, and Desi was bought from a breeder. Niki definetly wants to be near one of us all the time, while Desi is a free spirit. I think it's because of the terrible past she had. She's the first one at the door when we come home, and wiggle's her butt till I think it will come off. LOL

Well, it could be because of issues in his past. But it could also be hierarchy issues too. Dogs following their owners round their homes, stressing out over absences (ie. being left home alone), and racing to beat you to the door are all very typical of a dog that believes itself to be the pack leader ;)

You should get yourself a copy of Jan Fennell's book "The Dog Listener". It's a great resource, of invaluable benefit to any dog owner, irrespective of whether you've got any problems or not. It also gives some very good insights into dog behaviours and how to relieve your pup of leadership misconceptions that can lead to the sort of stressed behaviour you're describing.

Zeus is our rescue and he is really attached to my dh. Where ever Chris goes Zeus follows. If Chris goes outside Zeus will sit at the door and wait until he gets back. If Chris goes into our bedroom and doesn't let Zeus in, Zeus will sit at our bedroom door and wait until Chris comes out. Isis we got from a breeder and she is a happy go lucky kind of pup. She is happy just about any where. So far she seems to be attached to me and and my dd.

Although I don't have a puppy from a breeder...yet =)...we do have a rescued boxer. She sounds exactly like your Tyson. Has to know where everyone is at all times. She is always underfoot. She even makes her rounds during the night...taking an hour or so to sleep with each child before finally setting in for the night with hubby and myself, although she is getting much better when we leave her alone. She'll just hang her head (kind of pathetic actually) and walk into her crate, no more whining about it. Really makes me wonder what kind of life she must have endured before coming to our forever home. I think she is probably pretty nervous of being left alone, and I can't say I blame her a bit. I wish I could explain to her how much we love and will never let her down!

~I call it the "Train Dance". If I stop short we have a pile up~

We have three boxers. Our Hershey will be 10 and was bought from a breeder @ 8 weeks old. She is happy and secure and only follows me around the house if the mood strikes her.
Hummer (3) & King (11?) are recent rescues. We definitely have the train dance going on behind me. No matter where I go even across the room one or both are usually in tow.

Interesting view Boxer:

My Hummer does try and read my next steps if he thinks I'm leaving the house he won't let me out of view and he does race to the door in anticipation that he's coming along, and he usually does.We do the sit stay before exiting through the door just to establish I am allowing him to come. Although I don't perceive this as a dominance issue in his case. I do think he sees me as Alpha Mommy and for that reason follows me everywhere. I believe he just doesn't want to be left out of anything as well as for security issues.

As for King I think he also sees me as the Alpha Mommy and therefore he feels safe and secure when near me. Like you said (boxer), "issues in his past" abuse, neglect, abandonment who wouldn't have bonding & security issues..

I am so happy to have my rescues and my girl Hershey.
With all their quirky issues.

I'm so happy to hear that we are a normal boxer family! appicon I think I am going to look into that book just as soon as finals are done! I have to admit that I am a little more protective of Tyson than I am of Ali mostly because when we got her everyone wanted to see and love her and not Tyson he was pushed aside so to speak and ridiculed because of his demodex!?! Not to mention what ever rough life he had before us! They truly are forgiving souls!

How long have you had Tyson? His confidence should improve over time, but he may still remain your shadow. I know Magoo has come along way in the last year, I can even go to the bathroom without him waiting outside now =)
But he still shadows me around the house, that might just be the boxer curiosity at work, who knows =)

Capone is a follower of mom and Ally our new rescue is a follower of Capone. So I do have a train behind me. Capone has to know were I am at all times. He has just started to leave me but only when he thinks the kids have food they he is right back at my side when food is all gone. When Ally gets tired she will stay with the boys. Capone is a moma boy.Ally is only been with for two weeks now and not sure who see will follow hope it is not me!!
