A few drops under the tongue about an hour and a half before fireworks seems to do the trick.
I give rescue remedy and mimulus and larch for about almost a month, and I see no difference.
I give 4 drops rescue remedy in mouth and 2 of the larch/mimulus mix, and I drop the same quantity into his water bowl..

Elindave, just wondering if you gave the rescue remedy a shot? I tried it with my female, she's 4, and she sometimes is rather intolerant towards annoying/hyper/nervous dogs. I gave it to her all summer (this is when everyone here is out with their dogs - as soon as it starts to get cold, they all go and hide!), and I noticed a great improvement, she was much more relaxed, able to focus on me if I told her to leave it (ie leave the other dog alone!), etc. I recommend it highly.

I haven't used it yet....just cause the only dogs shes around right now are at her daycare and she does well there. Once the weather warms up, I'd like to try it when we go on long walks or to the park (lots of dogs in neighbourhood). It' kind of funny cause I've pinpointed the time of day when there won't be many dogs out and then I'll take her for a walk :)

Some people will tell you that it takes time to build into their bloodstream. And to a point, that is probably correct. If you're wanting to use if for something coming up, I'd start at least a week before and administer 2-3 times a day (4 drops). I usually give Butler more than this because he is such a muscular dog. The RR does work for Butler on a day to day basis as well. Today for some reason, he got a little antsy and started chewing his feet. I gave him some of the RR, and within 35-40 minutes he was calmer. It does make him a bit drowsy at the onset, but that soon wears off. Hope this helps. I'm never w/o the Rescue Remedy; take it everywhere Butler goes.

We're doing a cross country drive in a few weeks and I asked my vet about a mild sedative to help Lemmy relax on this long trip. They suggested Benedryl, but I'm wondering if Rescue Remedy would be a good alternative.

Has anyone used it for long road trips or travel?

Not long road trips, but we travel from SC/GA quite often. We live in SC and my husband works in GA, so Butler is on the road quite a bit. I always give him RR while we're driving to GA, and even when we get there if he appears anxious. Different place, strange noises, etc. RR is a natural product vs. Benadryl. I know anytime I've had to give Butler Benadryl it knocks him out. So it would work, but I'd stick with the RR. Good luck....

Thank you for your reply. I'll see if I can find some Rescue Remedy and have some Benedryl on backup if he gets really edgy.

I think there's two ways to use it. Either you give a small dosage regularly, which is what I did with my female (I gave her 4 drops at a time, between meals, 2 or 3 times a day). In that case I think it takes a while to see an effect. For me, it took a couple of weeks. If you're anticipating a stressful event (eg fireworks, trip to the vet), or if your dog has just experienced a traumatic event, then I think you have to administer it differently (I think it's a larger dose, a few times within a shorter period of time... I saw it written somewhere, maybe on the website...). Anyways, give a shot, if you find it doesn't do much, it won't have hurt your dog in any way (just your pocketbook!!).
