Hi everyone. Carlton broke out with hives about 4 weeks ago. Ever since then I will see a few bumps almost everyday. I took him to the vet last week and he said that his skin was fine. The vet told me to give him benadryl. I'm worried that these bumps keep on coming back. Is there something else that could be wrong with his skin? Thanks!!

Hives like that are very often a reaction to bites or contact allergies. Could he be being bitten by bugs, ants for example, outdoors or even in his bed? Another possibility is contact with plants or a reaction to something such as laundry detergent. If you don't think outdoors is likely, then it may be worth changing his bedding and the detergent you use to see if that helps any.

My male boxer, Toby, occasionally breaks out with bumps all over his body but it seems to be when he is stressed. He has some anxiety issues (separation anxiety, stresses when he has an accident in the house, etc.) is this hives? When i told my vet he instructed me to give him benadryl when this happens. Do i need to be looking for something else...something that he might be allergic to? I don't know very much about hives. I also don't know much about Toby's past, i adopted him from a boxer rescue and i am thinking he may have had a rough start. Poor guy.

Same here!

I have a new puppy, Bella, who is 8 weeks old. I have been up all night with her because of this rash that looks like hives all over her body. She would lay down for a few minutes, then jump up and run around trying to get comfortable. I was worried about giving her benadryl being so young. I'm going to the vet in an hour so we'll see what he says. I just feel so bad for the dogs. They seem so uncomfortable.
