Remove dewclaws during tumor surgery?

Since Skynyrd will be put under anesthea (sp?) Tuesday for his tumor removal, do you think I should have his dew claws removed too? I've thought about getting them removed but didn't want him to have unnecessary surgery. I asked the vet's opinion and she said it was a good idea if he plays rough (which he does).

I would if you were thinking about it already. Diesel has none and it's great but my older dog Dozer has his, and they kill us! I didn't think about it until after his neuter but I really should have had them do it while he was under for that. If he ever goes under again I'm doing it. I'm always afraid he's going to catch one on something and rip them off.

I would also opt for removing dew claws if he is going to be under anyway. I have seen plenty of ripped/torn dew claws from rough play or field work. I would think that the recovery from having them removed would be much simpler than actually encountering a problem later.
