Red raised bump on lower leg

My 4 year old boxer has a quarter sized oval shaped red raised bump on lower leg that is puffy and has no hair on it. It looks like it is moist and it does not seem to bother him as far as walking or he is not biting at it just maybe licking it every so often not too much though. It looks very sore and we are taking him to the vet. Does anyone have a clue as to what is going on here.

Sounds like an infection possibly a cyst. Can't be too careful with any lump or growth. Keep us informed. Hoping it's nothing serious. The loss of hair would seem to indicate infection.

We've had several animals that have developed infections from splinters, cuts and scrapes. It was not unusual for the hair to fall out at that site. Once treated and the infection cleared, the hair grew back.
