Hello:
My wife and I have a beautiful female Boxer that is 1.5 years old (Roxy!). This morning, we have unfortunately had a very serious incident with another dog.
Long story short, our new neighbor had stepped out to greet us while we had our dog (at the bottom of the stairwell of their porch) and his two dogs ran out from behind him. Things happened unbelievably fast, and one of the two dogs got hold of our baby and horribly didn't let go of her scruff in a violent uninstigated scuffle. We took our baby to the vet and she was treated and released the same day. She had a very large flesh wound that required minor surgery and a drain to be placed on her neck to help the wound heal.
Now we did get excellent medical advice and what to expect to treat her for the next few weeks. The glaring question from my wife and I is when would it be 'safe' to allow to her be by herself again? 2-3 weeks?
We both work, and we are 'fairly' flexible, but I am looking at staying home to be with her as finding a dog sitter in our area (trustworthy) is a bit difficult with such short notice. The idea is that we'd like to see her heal well enough to not worry about leaving her alone by herself without a full recovery.
Has anyone else been in this situation and what should I reasonably expect and consider for our situation.
For more details, feel free to send me a PM as its a genuine concern for my wife and I to see to her recuperation.
Regards,
Paul
