Hi Karolyn,

Thats great. If you could PM me that source from Canada that would be awesome:) I have not tried the lamb yet, as I am concerned it may be too rich for Luke. I took him and weighed him again today (i thought he gained weight) but he's the same. i wouldn't be concerned about it if you couldn't see his ribs. But you can definently see most of his ribs. So I am now on my way to the butchers to see what else I can get for him. Lamb and duck here we come!

Lamb Allergy

I got some cubes of ground meat and offal that the butcher puts together for dogs. It has beef, chicken, lamb & pork. I fed one to Luke this morning with 4 chick wings. About 40 mins or so after he ate, he began dry heaving. Trying to throw up, but nothing came up just liquid. This lasted on and off for about an hour.
I'm thinking he may have an allergy to the lamb. We've never fed Luke any lamb before (or pork come to think of it). I guess I'm just assuming I can't think of anything else it could be. I'm going to feed him small amounts individually of lamb & pork to see if I can pinpoint it ..... any thoughts??????

I guess that's why you should never feed a mix of different foods until you know that they are okay with the individual ingredients. I would try feeding just lamb and see what happens.

Where do you get the mix from?

Yep you are so right. I didn't even think about it, and should have known better. But now I know:)
I am feeding him a lamb neck tomorrow, along with some veg mush. Wish me luck.
I'll pm you where I got it from.

For red meat I feed brisket. I have been lucky enough to visit my grocery store early in the morning when a lot of the meats are reduced for quick sale and gotten some pretty good size packs of stew meats and roasts that I cut into bite sized peices and freeze for later use.

I have also fed goat (very similiar to lamb) with no reactions and I was concerned about the richness, but my dogs did well on this when mixed with some veggies. There is a recipe for some satin balls that can be used to help put some weight back on your pup on this board (use the search engine).
Good luck.

I fed Luke a lamb neck last week and he was fine.
Today I gave him a small pork neck. About 1/2 hour or so he developed a red hive under his arm. So I am assuming he is allergic to pork. I haven't given him anything for it. He hasn't any other hives and it seems to be going down now. Well, at least now I know :(
