I always feed mine on a towel. I just pick it up and throw in the wash when needed. :)

Raw Feeding

I feed raw, and love it. Yes, a boxers ribs will show some. Go to yahoo and join the raw feeding lists. The people are great, and you will find out tons of info, without buying a book. I feed 3% of est. adult weight as a pup, and play it by ear as he grows. I feed beef mainly, with chicken (yes, as long as they aren't cooked they are fine) thrown in here and there as I catch it on sale in the 10lb bags (.29-.39 lb). The beef is free, since I live in the country, and the local packer has to pay to have it picked up anyway. Plus, with a dogs digestive system, as I understand it, they get more benefit of taking their time to digest, and the enzimes breaking down the meat. Makes for less gas, less feces, which turn white and chalky in a day or so. I don't get the ribs or leg bones, as these are to hard, but almost everything else is open game. I'm not trying to step on anyones toes, since I know some don't agree with my way of feeding, but it works for me. Good luck.

LOL - since this is the BARF/raw feeding forum, no chance of stepping on any toes here by advocating raw ;) There are plenty of us raw feeders on Boxerworld - and we're always ready to welcome one more :)

I don't want to put words in bnichols70 mouth, but I think what that post was referring to is the fact that there are many approaches to feeding raw and that the people who follow them don't always agree. I sometimes read the "rawfeeding" Yahoo message board, and it seems like a lot of posters there don't agree with BARF as it is defined by Billinghurst and others. There are several models, BARF and "whole prey" being the only two that I have had any exposure to.

Mmmm - possibly :) Fortunately we've never had a disagreement like that on BW (or at least not that I can recall seeing LOL) between the various styles of raw feeding. I don't anticipate one in the future either ;)

Thanks

Wanted to approach this kinda careful like, since I am new here... To many "The way I do is THE way" attitudes out there... Mine: "If it works for you, fine, I just don't have'ta agree, but I'm not gonna flame ya..."

Perfect :) You'll fit right in then.

Incidentally, this forum may be entitled 'Barf' but it's by no means a Billinghurst style-only forum. There are plenty of us here that feed raw much the same way as you do, some who follow various models strictly, some who supplement or who don't supplement - but we all manage to co-exist and share advice and experiences harmoniously. We like the live-and-let-live approach here too ;)

I have heard that the 'brisket' cut is a good one with a bone that's softer than other beef bones. Of course the brisket found in my supermarket is boneless so I guess you have to ask for bone-in. I haven't fed alot of beef RMBs; when I have fed beef so far it's just the meat. I fed beef ribs but the bones were too hard for Farley to crunch.
.

Funny enough I have gone to and called alot of places and they don't have beef brisket with bone it. The butcher suggested short ribs but I think they may be too tough to chew.

Short Ribs would probably be okay. I get assorted beef bones from Surrey Meat Packers and their beef mix. When I give them the beef mix for dinner, I just give them a beef bone to go with it. Sometimes they eat it and sometimes they don't, but they always get some chewing out of it.

Raw meat diet

Hi. Yep its me with yet another question foolicon
Luke has been on raw for over 2 weeks now. He has lost about 3 lbs and his ribs are showing and looks skinny. I'm playing with his food amounts to make sure he gets enough (although I feel like I've been starving him)
I read that a good way for them to gain weight is raw red meat, but have not seen any suggestions as to what types of meat they are.
What does "raw red meat" specifically mean? Cuts? etc.

I am trying to get the books Barf Diet and Give your dog a bone. Unfortunately it seems to be sold out everywhere:( Until then I'm using my resources on the internet and BW:)

I have found that Duck and Lamb agree with the boxer digestive system best. We stopped feeding chicken and beef because they had a harder time digesting it. We get our food from Primal Pet food out of San Francisco, they ship everywhere and they have the vegetable and meat souce balance.

They have a website. www.primalpetfoods.com Matt and Steve are great give them a call.

Our boxer pup Zeeke has been on a raw diet all his life. We have seen no problems at this time. Yeah

We feed twice a day 2 cups raw each feeding and he gets a snack at lunchtime. He is very active and has a motabolism that won't quit.

He is lean and cut, but does not look starved at all.

good luck.

there is a place out of canada that has a mix that you add all the vegies and raw to. If you want that info I can get back to you. They are good source to get educated at.
