Mmm. How long do you think the average dog spends hunched over his food bowl? 2 min? 3? For many, it's a matter of seconds. Their joints take far more pressure from actions such as running.

Bloat, on the other hand, is frequently fatal. "Frequently" in this case being around half of affected animals. IMO it makes far more sense to let the animals eat as nature designed them to, and avoid man-made devices that put them at risk of potentially fatal afflictions. They've got sufficient brain cells to exercise the option of laying down if it's uncomfortable ;) Few bother, however, unless the meal requires proper chewing (kibble doesn't).

I never realized bloat was so serious. Thanks to this forum I now know.

I was planning on buying one (raised feeder) for my new puppy, guess that will be reconsidered.

Thanks!

Unfortunately, loat is way too serious. If a dog experiences bloat, you have I believe an hour max. to get to a vet. It requires surgery to correct and after surgery, there is still a big chance they won't recover. I knew a family that lost their great dane to bloat, he died during the night after the surgery. I hope to never experience it in any of my animals, especially since I live so far from a vet and have no emergency clinics.

Thanks so much for that info.
