I'm not sure if this is normal, but my little guy almost refuses to go use the bathroom if it is raining out (sometimes even if the grass is wet from previous rain). I'm not sure if this is something normal that he'll get used to...or if I'll have to take a different approach. I've tried shielding him with an umbrella and he still doesn't really want to go. My girlfriend suggested boots? I don't know if those are good. I live in Chicago, so winter is around the corner and I don't know if he'll refuse to step in the snow too. Anyone have these troubles?

My boy Rocky(14 weeks) is the exact same way, although he isn't as finicky as before. He is getting used to the different textures and feelings on his paws. Plus he is getting taller so that helps. Good luck.

I'm also in Chicago. With all the rain we had, Lance was forced to go outside in the rain which he hated at first. After a while, and lot of patience on my part, he got over it. I'd just stand out in the rain with him until he'd go in the grass. If he wouldn't pee, he went into his crate. I'd wait 15 minutes, take him out, and try again. One night it was almost maddening but he eventually went after a few trips. Also, allowing him to go inside right away after was a nice reward . Using his favorite treats to bribe him to get out there was also helpful. Now, strangely, he prefers to walk in grass. Even if it's wet. Go figure.

Good luck!

ps - I hope the monsoon season around here is over! :D

Lol, i LOVE this website! I posted nearly the exact same thing not long ago. Vegas was a prissy little pup and hated to get wet. We'd have a stand off outside and I'd end up soaked just to get him used to it. He still hates it but is getting better. I too dread the snow. His first winter is just around the corner! We did take him down to the beach and when he saw all the other dogs go in the water he thought it was such good fun he had to try it too. I think that helped him get over it a little ;)

I have to practically shove Bella out the door when it's raining! I usually let her out the garage door so that I can stand inside without getting wet and she will take about 2 steps out and pee right there! Then she comes running back to me to shake it all off  But she absolutely LOVES the snow

Chief used to hate the rain (and snow even worse!!!!!!!) It took him quite a while before he would go out on his own in the rain! He would do his duties right on the porch to avoid getting his feet wet! After a couple of months he eased his way into it! I think a lot of it had to do with noticing his big bro Sam (black lab mix) was still alive after coming in out of the rain! Your little guy will get there with a little more exposure to the rain! After all... it would be like humans going in the shower! (um.... somethings weird here!)
