Boxer Pal
smashicon Have a question regarding male boxers at 21 months of age. My son's boxer, Drake, has become a real handful, he lifts his leg to everything and most recently to the clean laundry just pulled from the dryer. Could you kind folks share some thoughts on the pros and cons of neutering. Should we consider running an ad in the paper tosee if anyone is interested in breeding? He is full bloodied, papers, a Kentucky bred beauty or is it better to just get him neutered?
How are they after they are neutered, does their behavior change, the wild boy antics dissapate? We really need some input, my son feels like he will be doing his dog wrong if he neuters him, I'm of the opinion the two would be better if one of them were fixed?!?!?!?! Anxious to have some thoughts??
Experience? Wisdom?? Thankyou, Sherrie

Sherrie, I am very much in favour of neutering and spaying all animals other than show/breeding dogs. If you do intend to breed please read all you can about the rights and responsibilities of having a stud dog.

There were two quite volatile threads on neutering not so long ago (really just one long interrupted thread). I post the links here for 2 reasons:

1) Both sides of the debate were quite passionate, and so you WILL read information from both points of view

2) to hopefully forestall this thread heading in the same direction.

It really is a personal decision. As much as I believe spaying and neutering to be the best decision, I realise that not everyone agrees. My comments and opinions are for those people yet to make a decision either way.

Please make use of the search function also. The absolute GOLDMINE of information that has been posted in the past has to be seen to be believed.

Good luck with all the reading (hopefully) that you are going to do. :)

I am all for spaying and neutering. There is SO many in rescue. I had seriously considered breeding Murph because of his champion background, but that was before I found this board and just how many rescues are in need of homes...so he was neutered at around 10-11 months...NO REGRETS! Best thing for him and the Boxers that already need homes! :)

Definately get him fixed. Although, Mason lifts his leg to furniture, so he isn't allowed in the living room.
