My girl Roxxi is 8 1/2 years-old and all of a sudden she suffered what seems to be a stroke. She lost her balance and her head is tilted to one side. She was completely fine the night before and when she woke up the next day, she could not walk straight and kept walking into the wall. I took her to the vet and she gave her some steroid treatment...I was wondering if anyone has gone through this and if the treatment has helped them or not. Please keep her in your prayers, I hate to see her like this.

I have no experience with this sort of thing but we hope she feels better soon.

Do a search on canine vestibular disease. My first foster had it and the symptoms are very similar to what you describe (and 'looks' like a stroke). He was about 9 years old and recovered most of his balance within a few weeks. He still had a little bit of a head tilt when he was adopted two months later, but he's very healthy otherwise, and still going strong over a year later.

edit - There was no particular treatment medications, we just gave him time to recover.

I agree with canine vestibular disease our old girl Sophie had it, came on all of a sudden, they need plenty rest and peace & quiet to recover which they do. Strokes in dogs are actually quite rare.

I really hope it is just a case of canine vestibular disease and your girl recovers in no time. Did your vet rule out heart troubles? Boxers (unfortunately) are prone to heart problems and sometimes a dog may appear to be dizzy and collapse if the dog has a heart condition. Again, I hope this isn't Roxxi's problem and I hope your vet has ruled out any heart complications.

The Vet did some blood tests and she looked normal other than the fact her thyroid levels were a bit on the low side. She is on antibiotics and steroid treatment right now. I looked up canine vestibular disease and the symptoms seam very similar. The only thing I hope it's not is a tumor, because there is nothing I can do about that.
It's been four days now and it seams like she is doing a little better. She is getting up on her own and starting eating and drinking again. Her head is still tilted and she is still walking into things so hopefully this will clear up in the next few days. I will keep everyone updated as time goes on. Thank you for your support!

Update

It's been about 3 weeks now and Roxxi made a 95% recovery. She still has a slight head tilt but other than that she is back to her playful self! Her improvements came VERY slowly. I hope this helps if anyone else experiences similar problems
