Questions about Quimby

If you read my post "What do I do now" you know about Quimby. I need your advice. Should I wait till he finds his forever home then get him fixed? (I would love to be his forever home but hubby thinks two is enough). I tried to get the people who were giving him away to let him recoup at home, I was going to pay. I just thought he would be a lot more comfortable in his own home. They didn't want to. I guess when they made up there mind to get rid of him they wanted to get it over with. I hate to bring him to a new home then cause him pain right away. He's been with me for four days. Do I let him get adjusted first? Or do I just make an appointment and get it taken care of. One of his testicles did not drop, so I know there is more surgery involved. Has anybody gone through this? What should I expect? He is not crate trained, so I'm worried about keeping him calm.

I think moving to a new home and then going to the vet right away for surgery would be very stressful for him. I guess you would want to have him fixed before he's adopted, or maybe make the people who are taking him sign some contract saying they will get him fixed? I don't know exactly how it works when you adopt a dog. If I was in your situation I would try to give him more time to settle in before sending him to the vet. Good luck finding him a home, or convincing your husband that you really do need another boxer!

Would Boxer rescue help you with the neutering? I would think it would be better to do it before he's adopted because that kind of surgery is more complicated and you want to make sure it's done right. It's more like a female spay and requires a few more days of recovery. With good pain meds, though he should recover fine. You just have to keep him quiet for a bit longer while he heals.

I agree, I think it's tough enough going to a new home. thats why I was hoping we could get this done before he came to stay with me. It didn't work out that way. He is settling in. My vet does boxer rescue so I'm hoping she will give me a break on the price. I find myself feeling guilty. He is going to get all cozy here then I'm going to send him off to another home. I just hope we can find him his forever home, and he never has to be uprooted again. Still hoping husband changes mind..

Definitely get him neutered Before you place him. If your vet feels he in healthy otherwise, the sooner the better. Alot of fosters come in and are neutered pretty quickly, and adjust to their fosters homes just fine.
