Questions about getting another Boxer

I am wanting to adopt a boxer in between the ages of 1 and 2. But I am afraid that Samson would get really jealous. He is our BIG baby of the house. And he is very attached to us. We know some people that have other dogs and we found out Samson does not share any toys (his or the other dogs) and he plays REALLY hard. What do I need to do to break Samson into getting a new friend? Is it harder caring for two? What if they don't get a long? Is getting a female better than getting a male? Sorry for all the questions, but I figured I'd ask fellow boxer owners. You guys know best!
Thanks

Dont ask me, I have three!!! Two males, one female. Every situation and dog is different. If you go through rescue and it doesnt work out, I know they work on trial basis most of the time.

i would sugguest a female.

we had brandy first then added tigger when brandy was about 16mths - tigger was just 10wks old.

we found brandy doesn't share very well either  won't let tigger sleep with her at night well not in her bed which is fine as they will sleep next to each other on the lounge, sunbed or outdoor bed- toys well she likes to take them off him and make him follow her around its sort of playing keep away from him it's quite cute to watch, we have noticed tigger does it to her as well now they tease each other.

tigger can be a little food aggressive but only with his treats and not all the time, their meals however i've seen them with both heads in the same bowl with no problems - but we do separate them just in case.

you just have to give each enough attention we still greet brandy first then tigger and they are the best of friends. brandy is very protective of her little brother won't let our inlaws boxer play to rough with him she will put herself between them as if to say no leave him alone ruby. ruby tends to get a little grumpy with him but she is getting old and doesn't have the patience for the bundle of energy he has as a puppy but still all 3 get alone without to much trouble.

karen, brandy & tigger

Boxer Pal
I would suggest getting a more submissive Boxer definetly whether it be girl or boy & when it comes down to treats & toys I would think about seperating the two of them or observing both very carefully. My very dominant male can be with male or female but when treats or toys are given out I usually baby gate them meaning putting one on 1 side of the baby gate & 1 on the other side or watching them vey carefully just in case something happens your right there. If you do decide to bring another dog into your home for the first few days you might even want to keep their leashes on that way if anything breaks out you'll have more control over the situation. Just a few tips that might help :)
