Question about puppy...

Hi...I am new here and also a new mom of a 10 week old white boxer, Baxter! This morning I was getting ready for work and my husband called me in the room to see the dog...he was shaking a little and seemed like his hind legs tightened up a little bit??!! He came over to me and I held and petted him for a minute or two and it stopped. Anyone have any ideas/suggestions??? Thanks in advance for your help!!!

there could be quite a few reasons for that.

Worst case senerio..a small seziure..

Young pups can also have their blood sugar drop..which can cause seziure like activity. How often does he eat..he should be getting at least 3 feedings a day, with 4-5 being prime. With more frequent feedings, they are able to maintain the blood sugar levels.

Was he cold? That might explain the shaking but not the tense legs.

If it were me I'd give the vet a call and see what they think.

As Donna mentioned young pups do need frequent small meals to keep the blood glucose levels from getting too low. Since Baxter is young I would let the vet have a look just to rule out any other possibly causes. First thing in the morning is a popular time for hypoglycemia symptoms to show -I wouldn't get too worried. You may also want to start a journal documenting times,last feedings and symptoms just in case it happens more than once. A journal is a help to the vet. Good luck!

just a another thought, if he could walk over to you, and cuddle, I am thinking he was just a little scared. A few of ours have done the same. You have to keep in mind it wasn't too long ago he was with his mother and brothers and sisters, and they are a main source for not only warmth, but security as well. Once they are seporated, some ease into a new home more easily than others, and some go through some anxiety. You should still have your vet do the one over on him regardless, but i'm just saying he is only a little baby in a new home, we'd get scared too!

Molly did the same thing!

Molly is 11 wk boxer pup and when she was 7 weeks old the very same thing happened to her one Saturday afternoon. I'm not one to remain calm in situations like this (that's what her dad is for) And since he wasn't there, I rushed her to the ER Vet. The ER vet checked for hypoglycemia, but her count was fine-- She had worms really bad and was VERY anemic. (We had just gotten her two days earlier)

Make sure your furpup is worm/parasite free and flea free. They just suck suck suck until the poor baby can't take it anymore! Vet gave her "Petinic" vitamins twice a day and we put her on very nutritious dog food. Now she's just fine and hasn't had an episode since.
