Question about out of state adoptions?

Hello I have a question and hope this is ok to ask...
My husband and I have been on the lookout for a boxer, I have wanted to learn a ton about them before we rescued one.. So now that we are ready, I am finding that a lot of rescues will only rehome to somewhere around their area or only in state... I live out in the country and the only rescues around here are few and far between.... Will rescues still work with me knowing I am farther away than their adopting limit or out of state?? I have found one boy that I would love to share our home with but it says only in their area will they rehome....
I am more than willing to travel for my new lovebug, but I think most fosters want me to come over a few times to get to know the furbaby first. Which I fully understand.
So what do you all think?? am I just too impatiant looking for a friend...?

In most cases, I would expect the answer to be no. The reason is quite simple - adopting too great a distance away is difficult for rescues to cope with when things go wrong. Every potential adopter is keen to drive as far as it takes to pick the dog up. But in those cases that the adoption fails - very few will drive those same miles to return the dog. Instead, rescues end with terse phonecalls telling them to come and collect the dog instantly or its going to the kill shelter tomorrow. And it doesn't help a rescue to perform its stated task of rescuing dogs if they're spending their time driving interstate to retrieve animals instead. The line has to be drawn on what area they cover somewhere

There are several threads on this topic already. If you were to search those out, no doubt you'd find some fuller explanations. As ever, you might not be the sort of person who'd behave that way if you needed to return a dog - but too many before you have.

The bottom line though is that the only way to know for sure is to ask Try not to get offended at no though - there is a good reason.

If you can't find a rescue willing to work with you because of your location you can always fine purebred boxers in shelters and more often than not they will be more likely than rescues to adopt out of state. Check online or call around to different shelters and I'm sure you will find a needy boxer just waiting for you Some shelters will take your information and contact you if a purebred boxer comes in.

Try BRLA. They adopt dogs into WA and BC through Boxers Without Borders. I don't see why they would exclude Oregon.

I agree BRLA may help. Although on their website it states no out of area adoptions I do believe they sometimes make exceptions. Check out my post titled "Jackie has been adopted" (its about four or five threads down from this one) there is a wonderful story about a dog from BRLA who ended up in Oregon.

My husband really wanted a boxer when we first got married as he'd had one in jr high and high school. So I wrote to the American Boxer Club and got a call from someone in the Seattle club (they do lots of informal rescues, too). They invited us down to see their 4 dogs. One was Trudy, our first boxer. We meet them and the dogs for an afternoon and I sort of remember going to a boxer club meeting at someone's home. They had a HUGE male boxer that jumped higher than my head (rather intimidating at first). We had to pass the boxer approval test as they said no amount of money was enough, if the dogs didn't like us. I guess we passed as we got Trudy and had her for over 12 years then they gave us the honor and privilege of rescuing Zola 3 years ago. Maybe, if you get to know people within the regional boxer clubs, they'll be more willing to adopt out of their local area. Another idea is your local vets offices. I know the north Oregon coast seems more remote to some people (I grew up there) but it's not that far to Portland or Seattle.
