Hi everyone, I have been feeding my two fur babies kibble (switching back and forth between Canidae and California Natural Lamb & Rice) for years. About a couple of weeks ago, all of a sudden Thut started with the soft/runny poop...EVERYWHERE... I took him off the California Natural, and started with the rice and chicken (and some pepto of course), and his poop firmed up... So I started feeding him the kibble again, and the next day the runny poop was back so I started up with the rice and chicken again (minus the pepto) and his poop has been back to normal. Has anyone seen or heard of this before? California Natural is on his allergy "allowed to eat" listing. (oh Freya's poop is soft but not runny). Please Help!

My guys cannot eat CAlfiornia Natural as the fiber content is WAY too low. I have to feed a food that is at least 4% fiber or they get the runs and/or horrible gas. You could try adding some psyllium to the food and if the fiber is the problem that will firm up the stools. I get Yerba Prima brand only because it's natural and doesn't have sugars added to it such as Metamucil, you should be able to find it in any health food store. I get a huge can for around $5 so it's cheap and my girl takes 2 tsp with each meal (2 meals a day) and when my boy has a bout of diarrhea I give him 1 tsp with each of his meals for a day or 2.

Good luck!

Do you rotate which California Natural you feed? Or do you just feed one kind (such as the Lamb, or the Chicken)? Maybe you could try a different food altogether, such as Natural Balance and see if that works. :)

Are you still switching between the Canidae and Cal. Nat? A while back Canidae switched their formula. Their is a huge thread on it in the feeding section. I was feeding Tyson the Canidae chicken and rice, they changed formula, and his poop was horrible. It was runny and almost watery. Just wanted to bring this to your attention. Also, pumpkin may help you also. Use 100% pumpkin (no spices added) and 1 tablespoon daily. Hope this helps.

Right now they are both on California Natural.** When they used to love canidae but when they switched their formula, they pretty much refused to eat it. I would put their breakfast in the bowl and it would stay there till dinner...sometimes longer (of course the funniest part is that this is the time period that we moved in the area and were temporarily staying with my mom...and boy did her two girls LOVE the food!). With my big boy's allergies, it's been a fun bout trying to find food's that he actually likes. We joke around that he's more of a finiky eater than my 4 yr old.
