Hi all... here is a strange situation. I have consulted both my breeder and vet, and have received conflicting information, and could use some guidance.
My female may have had a "silent" cycle in March/April. I never noticed any spotting, but a few weeks ago, her vulva was swollen and her nipples were larger. I took her in to the vet on May 25th since it was time for her annual checkup anyway. He said she looked preggo. Told him she wasn't bred. He ordered xray and it was of course, negative. None of her habits are any different, behavior the same, etc. So, they told me to watch her for all the usual issues (lethargy, no eating/drinking, etc) and follow up. I did so, a week later. All seemed well. Today, I got home from work and she made a mess in the laundry room on her bed. It was like a greenish black substance. Thought she got into something and after searching, realized it was coming out of her girl parts!! I panicked, called the vet, and he wanted me to bring her in. She is acting FINE. No other symptoms. So, on the way in (hands free cell btw), I called my breeder. She is across country, but is half owner so I needed to communicate with her. She told me NOT to take her in to the vet. She wants me to watch for other symptoms, and said it could be a variety of things. Her gums are healthy and pink, her coat is healthy and shiny, she is eating and drinking, and most of all, she is playing and acting normal. She even started jumping and running when she saw me take out the leash to get in the car.
Please, can someone set my mind at ease??? I live about 30 min from my vet, so I turned around as I would most likely have been sent to the ER because it was 5pm. I am torn over the situation. What could this be? Like I said, I never noticed her going into heat. She has a run outside that is chainlink in my backyard. My breeder asked if another dog got to her. I told her no, because I have never seen anything of the sort. Is she assuming that I am lying to her and was mated, either purposefully or accidently? I am so protective of my girl.... we have only had boxers for the last 15 years and they are our children. Please, someone tell me this is not the only time something like this has happened!!!
