Just had a quick story I wanted to post on here for ya'll.
A friend of mine was looking for a small lap dog for his wife this last Friday. He is down here for training as we are both in the Air Force. I am living in an apartment right now with both of my dogs and he is in a hotel. He has a boxer mix back home.
Anyway we went to check out the humane society. Before we could even walk in the front door, an older lady walked out with a boxer. He was really cute and we stopped to pet him. I assumed that she was getting vaccinations or something there. After talking to her for a minute and telling her that we both had boxers at home, she asked if we wanted him. It really took me off guard, but apparently he was just too big for her and she couldn't handle him. We talked for a few minutes and she said that she was about to hand him over to the humane society. I couldn't let that happen so my first instinct was to call the wife and see if I could talk her into another one! Anyway mine didn't go for it, but his did. He offered her all the cash he had on him at the time and she took him up on the offer. She was really upset and could tell that she would miss him, but we assured her that he would be going to a good home. I felt bad for her, but would have felt worse if he had gone to the humane society.
Anyway I can only imagine what could have happened if we would have gotten there a few minutes earlier and missed her completely. No telling where he could have ended up if he was turned into the humane society. He is really well behaved and although he isn't very sharp on his obediance, he isn't a troublemaker and seems to learn real fast. His ears are both real dirty and infected and he had a pretty bad case of fleas, but I frontline'd him yesterday and he will be going to the vet to get his ears cleaned later this week if all goes well. He is staying with my two dogs now in my apartment until Wednesday, and he will go back to Texas with my friend then. I must say that I am going to miss him, but at least he will be in a good home...
