Today when I came home from work my 16 week old female pup didn't seem really energetic when I let her out of the crate. I walked her and she did her business and everything seemed good but still not that peppy. I sat on the ground when she stopped eating to play with her and when she walked over I noticed the left side of her face under her chin was swolen. Not really large but noticeable. It wasn't like this last night and my girlfriend said it was fine at lunch but who knows. She doesn't want it to be touched and wont even lay down and put her face down. I have a vet visit scheduled for tomorrow morning (shots) and after I called them to see if I should bring her in they said to wait for tomorrow. When I opened her mouth to inspect it looks like her big baby tooth on the swolen side is bruised with a little blood spots. Im not sure if its a serious dental problem or a big tooth pushing out a baby tooth. Anyone have this problem before. Ill update after vet visit. Thanks

PS ... Is there anything I can give her to make her comfortable... Oragel or baby tylenol

I had the same problem with Sarge a few months back. His bottom gumline looked bruised (it was purplish in colour) and his chin was swollen. He wouldn't let me touch his chin and it was next to impossible to pull his lower lip down to take a look inside of his mouth. He wasn't himself for a few days. He wasn't as enthusiastic about eating because his mouth/chin was so tender. I took him to the vet and they gave me some Metacam for pain along with Apo Amoxi (250 mg caps) and a homeopathic remedy (small pellet-like pills) that were supposed to help remove foreign bodies in the event that he had something causing issues underneath the gumline. After a few days of meds, Sarge was feeling better and resumed his crazy boxer antics. Good luck. Chief and Sarge send lots of (((healing vibes))) to your girl. Keep us posted.

P.S. DO NOT USE TYLENOL ON YOUR DOG!!! Tylenol is toxic to dogs -- as little as two regular strength Tylenol tablets can kill a small dog. I wouldn't use Orajel on your dog without first consulting a veterinarian. I would try using some ice or giving her something cold to gnaw on (e.g., a frozen Kong stuffed with yogurt, peanut butter, or chicken/beef broth.

I agree, call your vet before you give any over the counter meds to your puppy. Maybe give her some ice cubes to chew? Good luck tomorrow, hopefully she feels better soon.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I didn't give her anything last night but a bowl of ice and a frozen kong. I hope bananas are fine because she can't get enough. This morning she is a completly different dog from the night before. Still swolen and still favoring that side of the moutht, but the energy and the boxer I knew is back. If only last night I knew she'd be feeling great today, I would have appreciated the sleepy off night she had. Vet is in 3 minutes so I'll update you with the diagnosis.

The vet visit went fine but the had no diagnosis for the swelling. The pup seemed fine and energetic and they said all they cold do was give her was a steriod shot for the swelling. She had just gotten two vaccination shots and I figured she didn't need another shot for the swelling. They pretty much just documemted it as a bug bite so they had something on record. I figured she bit something sharp and had something stick in around her tooth. They said to just get her Benadryl for the swelling. She is good and it was nothing serious, thought I'd just update. Thanks for the help. Having a puppy has turned me into a paranoid parents, but its worth it.
