puppy ripping apart boxers neck

Just wondering on what I can do to stop my sisters 14wk old pup from eating Gauges neck. Gauge has so may open scars from Lucy that I am tempted to just keep them seperate! They love to play but the little monster will not stop bitting and chewing his neck. She grabs the skin and pulls. I have yelled at her and keep pulling her off but she will not stop. Any ideas. Bitter apple spray maybe?

When we first got Buster he did the same thing to Roxy. She had scabs all over her neck and ears. But, as he got older he learned how hard to bite by her letting him know when it was too much. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Your boy will let her know when she goes too far. She is actually learning from him and it sounds as though he is a very patient teacher. It is natural for a puppy to do this.

My Fraze is the same way-both his sisters chewed on him mercilessly and he never corrected them. Poor Fraze never heard of the window closing on "puppy license" either. He would, however, look to me for relief so I taught both girls to "leave him"-not easy but in time they got it. I would also give Fraze spots where no puppies were allowed I always redirected the pups with toys or treats at first, as you never want to be harsh with a pup for just being a pup. In time they grew to respect him and to this day he remains top dog around here and both of them adored him (My sweet Ai now at the bridge and my peanut butter cup Nysa now). Blaze was like that with Minx when he was a pup. Minx would constantly have scabs on her rear ankles where he would nip at her when they were playing. If it appeared she had enough, I would step in with a firm "settle" or "no" and I would clap my hands at the same time. The I would redirect him to a toy he liked. Good luck!

I had the same problem. Ironically my dog was named Lucy but she was on the receiving end of my brothers golden retriever puppy. She wouldn't put him in his place. We ended up letting them play but would seperate them if it got too rough. My brother was only up for weekends so it she had a break in between. The puppy eventually got bigger at which point Lucy was more firm with him. It should work itself out after a while just make sure the cuts don't get too out of hand.

I had the same problem with Caney. She was young (less than a year) when she started playing with a friend's chocolate lab puppy (it still had puppy teeth) and when they were done she always looked like she had come out of a dog fighting ring. Plus she's white, so it was EXTRA noticeable. I guess she wasn't old enough to know to tell the pup?? She's a year and a half now, and she still doesn't mind being chewed on But she looks so AWFUL afterwards! Sometimes if I see the pup get a good hold on her neck, I'll give a sharp "Hey!" But that only lasts for a few minutes, then they're back at it :rolleyes:
