Over a month ago i noticed that Mollie (now 8ms) had what looked like pimples on her muzzle area..when she went for shots i asked the vet...she said it was "a boxer thing" now she only has them on her "chin" area..but they are red..sometimes bloody and one or two are dime sized...they seem to get aggravated when she sticks her face in the snow to eat it..her sister (and littermate) CAllie doesn't have this problem..but mollie seems to be my sensitive skinned dog..(she had hives during summer) I am going back to the vet in about a month and will ask again...has anyone else had this problem with their boxer???? They don't seem to bother her in any way, they are just not the cutest thing in the world...

thanks
Julie

Very common in boxers. Do a search for puppy zits or puppy acne and you will find an endless amount of info.;)

HI! Max (9 months) also gets pimples around his gowles and chin. They also became quite sore so now we wash his face after each meal (I know sounds silly but he seems to get less zits now). As well when he does break out I put on Tea Trea Oil from the Body Shop. I use this as Max's skin is also sensitive and other products dried it out. They always clear up by two days! Hope this helps! My sable still gets these pimples (acne) at 2 and a half years of age. Sometimes to the point where she has to go on antibiotics (once because they were around her eyes).

I find the best non-prescription treatment is to wash her face every day with a product called, "Hibitane Shampoo" which was recommended by the Vet. You can get this at most drug stores. It is usually located in the section where they have, Medicated shampoos or pimple treatments like "clearasil" or ask the Pharmacist. It is actually a medicated shampoo used for controlling acne in humans, but is sure works.

It really seems to keep them under control. Good luck.

Murray still gets pimples under his chin. Our vet told me I could wipe the area with a Stridex pad (for sensitive skin) which I have done and it seems to do the trick.:)

Okay....I was just looking at Mollies chin again..which she doesn't enjoy since it requires her to hold still for more than 1 second.. is it pimples if it's clustered and seems like they are all just red bumps one is kinda big..hair is gone in that area...I will try the stridex..this just started that's why i don't think it's a food allergy, and both girls eat out of ceramic bowls... thank you for the ideas

I just posted a note about this very same subject. I didn't see yours before I wrote it. My pup is 15 months old and has them all the time. Right now, they're bad. All over her 'lips'. I use stridex (doesn't work)...not sure what else to do. She's been on antibiotics for them once and they went away, but returned a week or so after she stopped the medication. I'll try the Hibitane Shampoo. Hopefully something will do the trick.

stephmc72 - you will probably have to do a round of antibiotics again if they are that bad. Change the food bowls to stainless steel if you haven't already, and then keep the face clean. This will keep them away. Use a warm wash cloth to clean the face (be sure to get in the folds also), then dry the face, then take OxyPads and wipe over the area. The OxyPads (or products similar) have benzole perxoide in them. This keeps the hair folicules open & clean.
