My boxer Emee is 4 months old and we also have a dachshund,Oscar, who is 6 years old but much shorter then Emee. When ever we pet Oscar Emee barks and then moves in to get her attention. Also Emee will stand over Oscar while walking around the house. Basically whenever she can. She is a pest trying to get him to play. I know she loves him because she sleeps with him and looks up to him like big brother.
I am looking for advice to fix this bad behavior so I can have peace at home.

mmmm I haven't a clue, but I hope someone can advise you just in case we encounter a similar problem when Biff's wee sister comes on the scene.

I don't know if this will be helpful, but I'll share. Apollo will sometimes nudge his way in if we are loving on Rocky. Usually I will include Apollo and love on them simultaneously. If I have just been loving on Apollo for a time and he walks away and the puppy comes to be loved on, and Apollo comes back, I will pat him on the head and tell him that it's Rocky's turn. Apollo is not agressive or pushy about it, but the puppy is. So let's reverse the scenario. Rocky has little to no manners at this point(which your girl may not either?) so I will make him sit while I love on them both, otherwise I feel that I am reinforcing jumping and rude behavior. Also, Rocky will climb or sit on Apollo (which he's not keen on) and I will snap my fingers and say"Rocky, get off Apollo", which he usually does, if he doesn't then I will remove him and tell him "Stay off Apollo, he doesn't like it". Yes I talk to my dogs like that, I don't believe in insulting their intelligence:) I hope that helps, if in any other way but to know that you are not alone!

Diesel does this too. He'll stand over Chyna (our pug) at every chance he can get. and when I pet her, he doesn't get jealous of her, he's jealous of ME, he runs up and tries to get her attention back to him, by biting on her feet, and trying to make her play with him.

It is nice to know I am not alone. I also have tired to ignore the bad behavior when paying attention to our older dog Oscar. Yesterday Emee learned rather quickly that the jealous puppy act isn't going to work. It seemed to work. Still looking for some way to correct the standing/walking over Oscar.

Unless Oscar seems stressed by it I would not worry too much but if you do not like it gently remove pup everytime and use a command like "Off". Eventually just the word will do the trick. Your pup may get a reprimand from Oscar one of these days if she keeps it up-that puppy license is about to expire :)

making friends

I have a 4 month old boxer, Juicy, and a 4 year old dacshund,Maggie. Maggie is very intimidated by Juicy and just stares at her when Juicy wants to play. Sometimes she will tolerate the puppy, then other times she growls and shows her teeth just because Juicy walks by the couch Maggie is sitting on. This behavior is worse when Maggie's owner, who is in college, visits for the weekend and leaves. I don't want Juicy to pick up these aggressive tendencies. How can I help them to become friends?
