Could anybody give me suggestions as to what may be bothering our 11 week old puppy? He is occassionally hacking like a dog does when it chews on grass. I have had him to the vet and he says there is nothing wrong with him that he can tell. And of course, he wasn't doing it at the vets. It's not all the time just once in a while. I know my dad's dogs have done this from time to time and nothing is ever wrong with them.

His gums are pink when this stuff starts, and he doesn't seem to care about them, just goes on playing like a nut. He is current on his shots and is an indoor puppy. We have not had him around any other dogs and our yard is fenced. My golden is current on all his shots, etc. as well.

He is being fed Nutro Lamb and Rice puppy food if that makes any difference. I am waiting on my order of Canidae to come in as we are going to be trying that out but nobody in my area sells it so we have to order online.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Could it be he's been chewing on something and it's tickling his throat? Or after he's cleaned himself...may have hair in his throat? Herkie will do that sometimes after cleaning himself...always startles the He!! out of me!

It's more like he has something in his throat but I don't see anything. He loves to pick up almost anything and I try to keep stuff up off the floor just like when my kids were babies. This is just a once in a while thing but it kinda gave me a start when he first did it.

Hacking is normal for Boxers

Hacking is normal for Boxers. It sounds terrible, but they are just clearing their throats. My vet once explained that the breeds face and short nose are the cause. I don't remember the specifics, but it is nothing to fear. My dog Buddy hacks here and there too.
