I feed my 8 1/2 month old male puppy with Royal Canin twice a day. But he is not a good eater - he usually skips meals or eats less than the recommended amount. Although he is skinny at this age, he seems fine to me - very active and happy -, and weights 48lbs.

Does that eating behavior mean that I should try to change the food I give to him?

I think there is a second question - is there anything I can mix with his food to instigate his appetite?frogicon

Try offering him meat , rice, eggs and veggies.
Bet he licks the platter clean! :D
Pups do tend to go through a picky stage.
Often they will lose weight also and become less and less interested in food.
We should "listen" to our pets and try to understand what it is this behaviour is telling us?

If you are sticking to commercially prepared ,
do a search here and look for the very best brands you can get.
Not all dog foods are created equal and many come from extremely bad sources who operate extremley evil practises involving animals.

If food tastes good a dog will wolf it down.
I have never had a dog turn up either raw foods or a home cooked diet.
You may like to try a mixture of both commercial feeding at one meal and home prepared for another.
