We have to make an impromptu trip in a few weeks and we cannot take our kids with us. Our oldest is 3 and has stayed at this kennel a number of times when we've gone away and he absolutely loves it :) We recently added a new addition to our family and at the time of our trip (4 days) she will only be 12 weeks. I'm really nervous about leaving her at the kennel even though we really like the owners and have had no problems. She will have both her second and third booster by then but still we are concerned.
Has anyone had a similar situation or suggestions on whether this may be a big mistake during such an important time in her life. If we didn't absolutely need to go we wouldn't but I guess life doesn't always go as planned

I would be sure and ask your vet if they see any problem with your new girl going to a kennel, as far as her shots and etc. Do your two get along well enough that they might be able to stay in the same enclosure, some kennels have large enough places and would be willing to do that - if you think there would be no problems. If that isn't possible, I would ask that they be placed next to each other - at least they can have nose contact, she might not feel so alone that way, also a toy she likes. This might be a little speed bump in her training - but I wouldn't think it would be anything too bad especially since it is only four days. Good luck - it sure is hard to leave them isn't it?

I would be extremely cautious about boarding a 12 week old puppy. She may have had her shots, but she probably doesn't have full immunity yet, and as such is still very vulnerable to the sorts of nasties that thrive in kennel environments (parvo, coccidia, kennel cough). Those won't bother an adult too much, but can be fatal for a baby.

Any chance you could find someone without dogs of their own, or with just one dog who doesn't go out places like dog parks, that could look after her for a week? Even her own breeder.

The vaccinations are what are worrying me...my vet feels that as long as she's had her second immunization and the first round of kennel cough vaccine she should be fine....but I don't always trust what vets say for some reason

We are trying to find a friend who will take her for the few days but he's just recently gotten a masstif puppy and this is worrying me too as he is a few weeks younger and may not have his second round of immunization. Ahhh puppies - gotta love them :)
