Puppy Guidance

Hey everyone I need a little guidance or advice on my 7 week old puppy, Sarabi. She was my birthday present from my husband recently. She's white with several large brown patches all over and has one blue eye. I am trying to give her the best care, love and home possible.

I'm not crate training her and not sure if I should. We have a storage room that's in the hallway near our laundry room and I made it her personal room. Would I be better crate training her?

I'm also concerned about her weight as of now she's 2 pounds. I'm giving her blue wilderness with milk replacer. She doesn't have parvo. Her breeder let her go early and I don't think she was getting anything she needed. She's not very social right now, she just watches and sleeps. I've read everything I can and I'm just not sure how she should be acting. My last dog was an American Pitbull Terrier and the comparison between the two from social skills to weight and activity are just confusing me.

Any advice to help make the experience for her and our family more comfortable and understanding of each other would greatly be appreciated.

Two pounds is awful small. Has she been to the vet yet?

Confining her to a separate room is fine. I wouldn't shut the door though. I would use a baby gate, to block the door, then she can still see out. It is always a good is have your dog comfortable in a crate, in case she has to stay at the vet etc. What you could do, is to use the crate at night, in your bedroom. She will be much happier, if she knows your nearby and can smell you and see you.

Thank you. She's been seen. We're suppose to go back soon for a second appointment. We decided to crate train her for that reason. We don't want her thinking her crate is a punishment in the future. We bought the baby gate and its helped. I'm scared to keep her in the room because we have a 2 month who sleeps with us and a 2 year old who comes and goes.

I would be very concerned about a pup who weighed so little at 7 weeks and you say she just watches and sleeps ..... but does she ever want to play ?

If your baby has no interest in playing I would get back to the vet asap.
