I am having doubts about what I am feeding my two puppies - age 8 months and 5 months. We have been feeding Canidae for awhile now and both dogs seem to be thriving on it. But - we just started fostering for Boxer Rescue and the vet we took our first foster dog to told me I should be feeding a large breed puppy food like Science Diet or Eukanuba to my puppies. He tryed to point out why these were better - more research etc.,

I guess I just need some reassurance that what I am doing is right. This is the first time a vet told me not to feed a holistic food.

Your best bet is to do a search on dog food and you will find lots of info. I remember threads where people indicated that boxers are not a large breed therefore should not be fed large breed food. Hopefully whatever you decide will work out just fine.

Canidae is an excellent food if your dogs are doing well on it don't switch. Large breed puppy foods like Science Diet or Eukanuba are NOT very good foods. And Bridgit is correct boxers are not a large breed dog. Most vet's are not nutritionists and often don't have alot of good info regarding canine nutrition.

Does your vet by any chance sell Science Diet? ;)

Stick with Canidae - just compare the ingredient lists if you need further reassurance that you're feeding a MUCH better food than your vet is recommending.

I also vote for sticking with Canidae. Just because they don't focus their marketing efforts on vets doesn't mean that they aren't better products! There is a reason that many vets recommend certain foods, and it's often about money, not the quality of the food.
