puppy feeding

Hey guys. I have a 3.5month old brindle boy named Logan. I have a few questions about feeding. We were feeding purina pro plan large breed puppy since we got him at 9wks old. After having some problems with potty training/lots of pee, i decided to try and switch foods to see if it would make a difference. I went to the dog food analysis page like suggested and chose to switch to blue buffalo since it was better quality and i could afford to feed it. He has done great with it and the nighttime crate wetting/dribbling got better instantly...go figure...it was an experiment and happened to work out! My question is does anyone else feed this food and if so how has it done for your pups? Is there a better food out there that is cheaper?(50 bucks a bag is a little steep but willling to pay for it because he does so well). He is 25lbs now and eating three cups a day. He seems to want more but he is very food motivated. How do you know how much to feed them or when to increase the amt. He seems to be gaining appropriatly with three cups...should i just keep it at that? Anyways...thanks for all of your suggestions.

I feed my boy Taste Of The Wild and it's $43 for a 30lb bag. It's also grain-free and an all life stages food. He's been so great ever since putting him on it.

We just switched to Taste of the Wild too and finally have firm stools with Allie. (No body else had a problem)
It's about $39 for a 30# bag here. We are also surprisingly experiencing less gas on the TOTW (2 Boxers tooting under the computer desk is enough to make you get off the computer)
It was a toss up for us to try Blue Buffalo or TOTW, in the end we went with the less expensive one, but are still amazed with the results.
As far as how much to feed, I just watch their body weight closely and add a little or take a little away. Or if I find them leaving food behind. Diesel is on 3 1/2 cups a day and Allie is on 3. Diesel weighs in at almost 40# and Allie is a little over #30.

For how much to feed, I start with the guideline the bag gives and then adjust accordingly. Which for me has always meant, Juno gets diarrhea so then I know I need to cut back the amount I feed. She's on Innova and at 7 months old, 35-40 pounds, I'm giving her right around 3 cups a day.

As long as he's at an appropriate weight and has firm poop, I wouldn't see a reason to change the amount you feed him.

I also switched from Purina One Large breed puppy formula to Blue buffalo. I have seen wonderful changes in my Jerzey girl. As you also stated, we also had problems with nighttime crate wetting/dribbling/potty training. Not only did changing to a higher quality food help with those problems, but her coat is so much softer and shinier. Also, she has smaller poos. (Less to clean up in the yard) It is a bit more expensive than I would like, but it is worth it to me to know that she is getting more nutrition from her food.

We feed Jerzey 2 and a half cups a day. She always wants more but like your pup, she is very food motivated.
