Boxer Buddy
Sorry so long....
So I had to have a puppy euthanized on Saturday. A friend of mine bought it a month ago I guess. It didn't eat for four days after they got it. I guess they were originally going to have one person home (was unemployed and didn't plan on starting a job until february) to raise and train this puppy. It was 12 weeks when they go it and weighed 16 lbs. Well a week after they got said puppy the person got a full time job. Suddenly said puppy is in crate for AT LEAST 10 hours a day... not being let out. Puppy eats a chicken bone. vet visit. bone passes fine. Puppy starts vomiting and diarrhea. so they x ray to check of obstruction/ perforation. all turns out fine. well this goes on for 3 weeks.. the dog is going downhill i guess the whole time. they called me on friday saying that their puppy was really bad. Knew i was in vet school and asked if i could take her and try to save her. So me being the boxer lover i am. I picked up the dog from 3 hours away. What i saw was DISGUSTING. I haven't even seen a dog on animal planet that skinny. its zygomatic (cheek bone) was even pronounced. I guess they had it to the vet two days earlier the vet said it needed to be on IV b/c of dehydration. THey denied care. so this dog has been dehydrated for three days. It drank like it was dying of thirst all the way home. (and it was literally dying of thirst) i got it pedialyte and every hour watered and fed her a mush of puppy food and it. no vomiting. no diarrhea. Took it to the vet first thing in the am to get on IV. we tested for worms, parvo, x-rayed, everything short of an ultrasound. can find NOTHING THE MATTER with this dog. vet says there must be an internal genetic problem and you cant say it was abused b/c it was taken to the vet..
NOT ABUSED MY A##. THe puppy weighed 14 lbs when it was taken to the vet saturday. this dog was so happy to see me it almost feel over when wagging its stub. I just can't beleive this. It makes me cry to even think about her sweet face. Supportive care she needed was going to be 900 dollars for three days, and i couldn't afford it. she was too far gone... so we did the most humane thing for that poor dog. her last night on earth was great.. nice queen sized bed. boxer love.. and someone who loved her every 14 lbs when she passed. Poor little girl.
