Amy Murphy
Boxer Pal
I am in a situation where I don't know who is right and wrong. My vet and the books about Boxers said to crop the ears 12-14 weeks of age.My breeder and other Champion breeders have told me to do it at 8-10 weeks of age. They say that if I do it any older that the ears will not stand up right. So my question is has anyone had their pups ears done at 14 weeks of age and are they standing and how long did it take?

I would say that 14 weeks is the *latest* they should be cropped. I have also heard arguments the other way - that the later they are cropped the easier they are to get to stand. So, who knows. Our pups have all been cropped between 11 & 12 weeks, and took anywhere from 2 months to a year to stand (actually, the one that we taped for a year never did stand correctly. The longest it took for ears that stand correctly was 9 months.) The time it took our last puppy was dramatically shorter than usual - 2 months - and I'm not sure if it's because we found a different way of taping or because that puppy was the first one we had on a raw diet.
