I am getting a 9 week old boy this weekend. I live in Massachusetts and the past few weeks it has been cold (lows of 15 degrees F), and of course it will only continue to get colder. I was wondering what I should put on him when I take him outside? I bought him a coat already, but I was wondering about booties. The problem I have with the booties is I doubt that they are comfortable and when I put them on him he probably isnt going to want to go for a long walk. Also what are your opinions on temperatures that are too cold to bring him out in (if there are any), and any more ideas on keeping him warm outside.

I would skip the booties. At 9 weeks and up for most of the winter the most I would take your pup out is to potty, maybe just a couple of minutes of play. Puppies can get cold quickly. I would find a place free of ice and salt to put him on to do his business. If you own or rent a house that is easy enough to accomplish. If you live in an apartment and will be near salted sidewalks and parking lots it is a much harder task. If there is salt be sure to wash your pups paws after coming in because the salt can dry them out and they can crack. Also watch you pup outside. Some people think itis cute when their pup eats snow, but if it is a snow bank that has been plowed you really don't know what is in the snow. Parking lots have lots of toxins on them, like antifreeze, and it all gets plowed up together.

I would skip the booties too - we live near the Rhode Island border and have never used booties. A jacket should be fine, but really, you will likely only be taking him out for a few minutes at a time for potty at this age so you might not need it. We got Tucker in late November two years ago and he didn't have a jacket the first few months because we did not spend much time outside until spring. Potty training was a bit hard with snow on the ground because he didn't know the difference between the deck and the grass since everything was white. 
He figured it out when everythin melted in the spring though.

Thank you!! I will skip the booties. I do live in the city so we will see how the puppy likes the snow covered sidewalks. Do you think taking him out for walks would be too cold? I know it will be winter. But since he's young and has tons of energy I just wanted to get him used to being outside.
When Moto was a pup, I would buy him cheap child's hoodies to wear outside. Here are a couple of pictures with him wearing his hoodies:

We also live in MA and we got our boy two years ago in mid January. At that time there were a couple feet of snow (and snowing nonstop for what seemed like forever) along with temps in the single digits at night. It was soooo cold out and we just got a sweater that I think we ended up just leaving on him at night for the first week and he seemed to be just fine. We never kept him outside for any long lenght of time but he didn't ever seem to be bothered by the cold. He loves the snow and I think perfers the cooler temps.

If you want to walk him in the snow I would recommend booties. Or you should at least give them a try. His sensitive puppy feet may crack from the cold of the snow.

Lexie is 4 months old now and doesn't miss a days walk. We live near Toronto and it has been -2 to -10C . We tried the booties a couple of times when the temp dropped real low and they didn't seem to slow her down. We use the when going out most days now. It hardens upwhen the cold hits it so she doesnt feel the salt or ice until shes ran so much its wore off. Thats when we know its time to go home.
We have 4 months of this cold stuff left and were not staying inside,
