Puppy circling during feeding??

Boomer is 16 weeks old and recently started doing the strangest thing while eating. He will eat about half of his food, walk away in a circle and then return to eating his food. He eats super fast (under a minute) and I am slowing him down by putting a rock in his bowl. Although the rock helps, he still eats way too fast. I am going to try putting his food on a towel to further slow him down. My question is, why does he walk away and circle midway while eating his food?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

On a side-note: I am taking Boomer to the Vet this afternoon for his 4th set of shots and I will ask the Vet as well about this.

Raine did this as well. In her case she was literally choking on her food (eating too fast). At first we didn't know what she was doing and thought it just yet another one of her quirks. We finally realized that she was choking and put a stop to her inhaling her food!
We had also been using various items in an attempt to get her to eat slower. Nothing worked perfectly so I bought one of the slow feeder bowls. Even with that her meals are split in two. She gets half of a meal and then once finished I put the rest of it in. This has been the only thing we could come up with to get her to slow down. It isn't perfect, she still eats fast but there is less in the bowl at once. No more choking since this change has been put in place.

Sarge is a speedy eater, too. I've found that mixing a little bit of plain yogurt in with his food makes the kibble stick to the bowl and slows him down.
